The initial impetus for the accumulation of these data was the news that Ben and Mal Feinswog’s daughter, Lauren Feinswog Millin had been diagnosed with rampant cancer while pregnant with her second child.  As many others, she had aggressive destructive conventional oncological therapies thrust upon her without any real other choice.  Immune repair and support therapies were started too late.

Mal's book about Lauren's life, Lauren's Light – A Mother's Tribute, has now been published.  It is healing, inspirational and uplifting.  Lauren’s parents started a foundation in her memory to assist families in which a parent of young children has cancer.  Check out This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Rita Rauchwerger , PATH’s founder, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1975.  After surgery, Rita went on to live her life with the desire to learn about alternative and natural healing and to share her knowledge.  She started with the cancer victims group and it became the cancer victors group.  Finally she helped evolve the group into Positive Alternative Therapies in Healthcare.

PATH celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2007, continuing a remarkable run of providing information and making a big difference in the quality of people’s lives in our community and beyond.

Rita died peacefully at home November 30, 2006 after not fighting a ‘battle’ with returned cancer.  This diminutive artistic dynamo focused on living a large life, not on her infirmities.  She continued being an inspiration and making a difference in her community of PATH helpers even up to the last week of life.  PATH is still driven by her memory.  She had a fierce sense of ethical relationships and created respect for alternative viewpoints.

In her honor, this brief monograph attempts to highlight important things to consider when one gets that fear filled diagnosis of cancer from the unsuccessful medical perspective of the business of the cancer industry, and to instead help focus on the priority of living a joyful  life with enough energy to give and receive love.

Guy B. Faguet, MD who wrote The War on Cancer: An Anatomy of Failure, A Blueprint for the Future reminds us that the essential fallacy of chemotherapy is tumor response, while few live longer as a result.

HEALING THE NON-HEALING

Illness is a crisis.  Crisis can focus our awareness to the opportunity to create change.  Change is always a daunting challenge.  For health, we must face that challenge willingly.  In our toxic culture, cancer itself has become cancerous.  It will soon be the most common cause of death in the USA, unless you consider the real leading cause, treatments offered by conventional medicine as ‘healthcare.’  Scandinavian twin studies convince us that cancer is 70% environmental.  The United States is a world pollution production leader.  Our leaders are in the state of denial.

More fear is associated with cancer than most any other condition.  Oncology provides heroic (sometimes statistically successful) treatments of chemotherapy and radiation, which are painful, poisonous and carcinogenic.  These poisons often provide little more than a few extra months of nausea.  Fear is in itself a primary poison.  Fear is used by industry to manipulate doctors and patients toward major institutions and patented therapies.  Cancer's mesmerized victims nobly become part of ‘unethical’ experimental trials.  Quality of life (the key therapeutic concept) becomes secondary when it comes to corporate bottom line.

Our natural addiction to sweet that served us so well in the rain forest is our modern-day weak spot.  Most animals make vitamin C from sugar, and stress multiplies ascorbate production in animals.  Adequate vitamin C reduces all kinds of addictive behavior in humans, from sugar to morphine.  Excessive insulin is induced by foods that boost blood sugar.  Insulin changes gene expression, so energy is diverted to make more inflammation.  Extra insulin makes us feel instantly older.

The core issue underlying most chronic illness is loss of the rhythmic ability to precisely regulate insulin and blood sugar.  Excessive stress hormones are produced in response to insulin-driven dropping blood sugar.  These overused 'emergency' hormones disable cellular immunity, dissolve the bones and make teeth susceptible to decay, dismantle brain connections and turn muscle into flab.

With excessive stress messaging (from heavy metals, halides, phthalates, petrochemicals, solvents and browned sugar molecules) repair tides of the day are overwhelmed.  Ensuing stress responsive inflammatory chemistry allows ‘structural’ cells (like muscles, skin, bones, teeth and the ‘shag carpeting’ filiform papillae of the tongue) to wane by undergoing apoptosis, programmed cell death.

Apoptosis is shut down in ‘survival’ cells such as fat cells, creating growing expanding flab.  Stressed inflammatory white blood cells also live on, dissolving bone and creating chronic autoimmune pain.  Nerves and taste buds (such as the now visible and often inflamed ‘strawberry spots’ of the fungiform papillae near the tip of the tongue) survive. Chinese say the first sign of stress overwhelming repair from loss of rhythm is a red tip to the tongue.  The red tip then progresses to absent or atrophied filiform papillae creating a smoother tongue with ‘strawberry spots,’ the now visible taste buds called fungiform papillae.

Paradoxically, the already stressed or defective cells of the body (designed to eliminate themselves by undergoing apoptosis or cell suicide) are also signaled to live on to grow, becoming cancerous tumors.  With enough balancing messaging of abundance from the dualistic steroid receptors to our nuclear DNA, tumors shrink and defective cells quietly commit apoptotic cell suicide daily.  Messaging of abundance come from gratitude, soaked seeds, nuts and grains, fresh vegetable juices, fermented foods as well as being provided by vitamins A, D, Es, Ks, steroid hormones, retinoids and other sun generated pigments, proanthocyadinins, resveratrol and the salvesterols, aromatic essential oils and foundationally the essential fatty acids.

Flab (the critical part of being fat or over weight) superseded cigarette smoking as the number one ‘risk factor,’ by 2004 in America. One can be skinny and flabby, as well. Primitive diet and circadian rhythm of the rainforest lifestyle are the keys to precise regulation of catabolic stress hormones, cortisol, epinephrine and norepinephrine.  Rhythm, sunshine, essential oils, pigments, fat soluble vitamins and beneficial bacteria are keys to restoring the solid pink structural shag carpeting of the tongue.  Our emotional state is the product of our hormonal balance interacting with our resident sentient biofilm.

MODERATION, NOT MARTYRDOM

Sleep is the healer.  Sleep reduces tension, fear, and anxiety.  Adequate sleep reduces flab and can relieve dullness, boredom, depression, or lack of spontaneity.  Try a full 7-8 hours sleep to treat diminished cooperation, irritability, temper outbursts, attention deficit, impaired recent memory, diminished sex drive, headache, backache or pain.  Most cellular immunity (gobbler cell activity) as well as reorganization and repair occur during low-stress sleeping hours.

It is best to eat lightly in the evening.  Seeing sunrises and sunsets helps set body clocks for effective sleep.  Allow the energy of the blue sky to enter your naked eyes for 20 minutes in the two hours after sunrise and before sunset.  Avoid sunscreen and try to get an hour of noontime sun per day.  Modern man gets only three percent of the natural light of the caveman.  We actually need the sun’s ultraviolet rays striking our uncovered eyes to set circadian clocks and trigger body protective mechanisms against oxidative damage.

Sunburn signals exhausted antioxidant systems, especially vitamin C and glutathione.  Sunburn is a ‘risk factor’ because it is a repeating failed oxidative stress test, warning of disabled cellular immunity.

Vitamin D is the most important hormone to tell chronic inflammatory cells and defective cancer cells to commit cell suicide or apoptosis.  Tumors shrink away peacefully and reorganize with apoptosis as opposed to the nauseating release of poisons with necrosis, due to ‘war like’ too aggressive use of chemotherapy, radiation, heat or other natural means.  Dr. Bruce Ames says that more sunshine and vitamin D could reduce cancer in America by a full third.  Test your serum 25-OH vitamin D and keep it above 80 nanomolar serum concentration.

Try to ignore the stresses of electric light when you need to heal or boost cellular immunity to recover from disease.  That morning caffeinated coffee or cola throws a wrench into body clocks, limiting the effectiveness of that night's sleep, creating chemical ‘jet lag’ that takes three days to get over.  Start the day with soaked grains, seeds and nuts.  Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.

One good thing about cancer is that it gives us the opportunity to focus on the important things in life: time to rest and reflect, on quality and on our relationships.  Edmund Cava, MD my friend, declared victory with a lowered PSA due to diet and lifestyle changes over his prostate cancer eight years too soon.  He went back to the patterns of an operatic tenor, enjoying with great gusto his late evening meals followed with little effective sleep and weak breakfast.  He fought a war with and eventually succumbed to a more virulent form of cancer and its aggressive therapies.  If one with cancer does not take the time to rest and reflect, time will be too short.  Learn to meditate.

Ingesting significant snacks in the two hours before sleep shuts down nighttime repair and growth.  The sugar rise feels great.  But the inevitable insulin-driven drop in blood sugar after midnight creates inappropriate nighttime release of stress hormones that thins skin, melts muscle, weakens bones, slows repair, diminishes cellular immunity and disconnects the wiring of our brains.

Inefficient digestion and compromised detoxification set the stage for degeneration of autoimmune disease and cancer.  We are all being poisoned.  Those that cannot get rid of poisons are the ones predisposed to disease.  Detoxification system differences determine our primary hereditary risk, but heavy metals and petrochemicals also damage drainage.  Egg yolks, avocados as well as heavily pigmented fruits, vegetables emphasizing crucifers and berries recharge detoxification systems.

Besides poor quality sleep, the other flab producer is ingesting too few minerals (greens) or too little protein in the first half of the day.  Protein needs are assessed by the middle of the day.  If there is lack of proper protein or minerals in the digestive tube, stress mechanisms are used to dissolve bones and teeth to free up nutrients.  Besides the psychological irritability and vigilance induced by cellular starvation, the skin thins and muscles are turned into flab to release protein for perceived needs.  Aim to eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a vegetarian prince and dinner like a pauper.  If you do not eat breakfast, the body eats your muscles, skin and bone and stores flab.

Senescence is premature aging, loss of joyful vigor.  Eating foods that trigger high blood sugars makes us instantly older on the insulin-driven downswing.  Succulent sugar seeds senescence.  Animals triple and quadruple vitamin C production when they are stressed.  Vitamin C is made from sugar.  We crave sugar when stressed, but have lost the necessary enzyme to make vitamin C.

In the USA fresh vegetables are only required to look fresh, not be fresh.  Most ‘fresh’ vegetables and fruit have their antioxidant potential exhausted by storage before they are eaten.  Fatigue is an important wake up signal of the shift to senescence; and the shift to the chemistry of decay, congestion and cancer.  A new body balance of irritability, depression, lowered energy, diminished digestion, poor detoxification, weakened cellular immunity, increased humoral inflammatory response and slow healing is created.  Cancer is simply a wound that will not heal.

Longevity, productivity and freedom from aches and pains are associated with eating fewer high-quality calories in nutrient dense foods.  The response to high sugars or high calories was first described as metabolic syndrome X; included were diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer.  Today we see syndrome X as a prediabetic constellation of stress-related diseases caused by chronic catabolic sympathetic responses to insulin-driven swings in blood sugar.

Expressions of this metabolic shift are dental plaque formation and depressed cellular immunity, cysts and polyps, cancer, atherosclerosis, elevated cholesterol or triglycerides, hypertension, elevated glucose, elevated insulin, stroke, cardiomyopathy, kidney and liver failure, neuropathy, retinopathy, male impotence, blindness, glaucoma, and gangrene.  Syndrome X starts as increased irritability and sensitivity leading to bad behavior and depression, long before fasting blood glucose rises.  Mood swings, and aggressive or violent behavior becomes the new dynamic.  Irritability (loss of imperturbability) due to lack of minerals is the number one psychosocial problem in America.

BORDER INFECTIONS, FRIENDLY FIRE

A basic imbalance in the dynamic of immunity results from the high sugar diet, depressing cellular immunity making us more susceptible to infection and shifted to being more sensitive and allergic at the same time.  Two primary themes of white blood cell immune response compete, creating balance: thymus activated cells (T-helper-1 or Th1) or bone marrow activated cells (T-helper-2 or Th2).  Interferon production and phagocytic (gobbler) or natural killer cells characterize the Th1s.  These Th1 cytotoxic cells are our prime silent protection against infection or cancer.  The humoral Th2s create more allergy, hypersensitivity, food intolerance, mucus and eventually when one’s detoxification “rain barrel” is full, grinding fatigue with multiple chemical sensitivities.

Th1 killer function weakens due to weak breakfast, lack of vitamin C or reduced glutathione, excessive calories, excess sugar, too little or too much protein, lack of essential fats (omega-6 or omega-3), stress, steroids, antibiotics, altered gut flora, acetaminophen, inadequate ingestion of antioxidants, or subcutaneous vaccinations (measles, mumps, rubella, probably pertussis and BCG).

Some feel we best allow our children to contract these developmentally important diseases so necessary to prime the immune system.  Normal childhood infections become minor annoyances when children are covered daily with 100 mg of vitamin C per month of life.  This dose is effective for most immune challenges; including single vaccinations in well children over 2 years of age (if you believe they are effective).

The amount of plaque biofilm building up on the teeth or tongue measures the degree of failure of cellular immunity.  When cellular immunity is intact the mouth stays clean effortlessly, and there is little film on the floss.  The need for frequent dental cleanings defines failed cellular immunity.  Dental floss is best to remove food fibers and to make us aware of degrees of effectiveness of our gobbler white blood cells (by the amount of biofilm retrieved on the floss).  If excessive plaque is present in the mouth, surfaces of all the other tubes, ducts, bladders, arteries and veins of the body are accumulating aggressive biofilm allowed by compromised cellular immunity.

Allergy (humoral or chemical) response is up regulated in an attempt to compensate for the inability to cellularly shed infection.  The Th2 heightened allergy theme promotes the cytokines, interleukins 4, 6, 10, & 15.  Heightened Th2 response causes allergy, hives, itching, sneezing, wheezing, atopy, asthma, migraine, hay fever, polyps in the nose and elsewhere as well as cysts everywhere, including sinusitis, gingivitis, colitis, scleroderma, lupus, fibrosing lung or gums.  The epidemics of the immune imbalance represented by asthma and diabetes predict a further rise in cancer.

Th2 response seems most damaging when cellular antioxidant systems (primarily reduced glutathione) are exhausted.  People die from drug overdoses like acetaminophen, bee stings or peanut allergies when glutathione is not recharged.  N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) and other sulfur-containing amino acids boost glutathione.  Modulate allergy symptoms with vitamins C & E and the Bs.  Bioflavinoids like proanthocyanidins and quercitin are antihistaminic and help recycle glutathione.  Do not forget to support zinc and selenium.  Colostrum, whey, transfer factor and lactoferrin also modulate immunity.  DHEA and testosterone boost TH1 response reducing allergy-mediated inflammation.

Boosters of natural killer cell activity: Green vegetables help.  Studies show that Kyogreen with its young barley leaves, wheat grass, Laminaria (kelp) and Chlorella (alga) enhances macrophage (gobbler) activity, reduces fatigue and inhibits mutagenesis.  Cod liver oil with its omega-3 fatty acids (EPA & DHA) and vitamins A & D is a proven immune enhancer.

Colostrum and whey with its derivatives, lysozyme, lactoferrin, and transfer factor are powerful immune boosters.  Dirty hands from healthy soil, normal gut flora, bacterial infections or beneficial bacteria called probiotics (lactobacillus acidophilus, saccharomyces boulardii, soil based organisms and others) tone the immune system and teach it tolerance, reducing humoral immunity.

CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) as a supplement and in springtime butter and meat of ruminant animals boosts interleukin-2 and inhibits IgE allergies.  Maitake extract, Ten mushroom formula, MGN3or ImmPower (beta-glucans), beta-sitosterol, sterols, sterolins, Echinacea, arabinogalactans (larch bark extracts), dumontaceae (red-brown algae), organic germanium, Hypericum (St. John's Wort also enhances detoxification), Melissa (Lemon Balm) and Royal jelly or Propolis have all been found to enhance apoptotic signaling to defective cells, causing them to die.  Ligusticum (osha), an antiviral is often combined with astragalus.   Reishi mushroom strengthens compromised immunity.  Olive leaf extract is antiviral.  Thymus extracts are effective and boost cellular immunity.

Three products deserve special mention because they are so easy to use and powerfully effective.  Oralmat drops (active ingredient secale), from Allergy Research Group diminish allergic response, minimize the cancer cough and aid breathing, especially in asthmatics.  Two to three drops are simply placed under the tongue three or four times per day.  Immuneprime, an amazing immune-booster, also from ARG, an extract of rhodinol is also used as just drops under the tongue, or topically.  AVE is a tasty powdered drink mix concentrated from saccharomyces cerevaseae fermented wheat germ and concentrated to standardized levels of methoxy-substituted benzoquinones taken once per day.  AVE has very strong studies to support its use in most cancers and autoimmune disease.

A 'Periodontal Susceptibility Test' identifies people with a genetic predisposition to excessive interleukin-1 response to infection.  The group with the highest natural killer response has 7 times increased risk to developing severe periodontitis. Interleukin-1 encourages all cytokine activity and has been implicated as a major inflammatory up regulator in rheumatoid arthritis, heart disease, inflammatory bowel disease, Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, cancer and chronic fatigue syndrome.  Resultant increased PGE2 increases spontaneous preterm delivery and infant mortality.  Hygiene and controlling infection reduces the upward spiral of production of interleukin-1 and other proinflammatory cytokines, for this susceptible group.

Th1 response triggers active rapid autoimmune destruction only when cellular antioxidant systems (primarily glutathione) are exhausted.  Natural killer 'excess' is seen in the interferon-driven active destructive phase of many autoimmune diseases (often lead and/or mercury induced).  Unbridled Th1 activity is implicated in Chron's disease, hepatitis C, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, tooth decay, rapidly progressive periodontitis, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren's syndrome, and insulin-dependent diabetes.

During active destructive phases of autoimmune disease, boost glutathione (with NAC or whey, selenium, MSM, Epsom salts, vitamin E, methyl donor B vitamins); use 1-3 gram doses of niacinamide (a PARP or poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitor); 25-50mg of P5P (pyridoxal-5-phosphate clogs a receptor site on CD4 T natural killer helper cells); and consider the use of adrenal extract, DHEA, low-dose cortisone or progesterone.  Tetracycline antibiotics slow reproduction of many occult intracellular pathogens (which may be acting as immune triggers), and tetracyclines also act as metalloproteinase inhibitors, reducing inflammation in general and collagenases in particular.

Cat's claw (Uncaria tomentosa or guianensis) relaxes blood vessels and lowers cholesterol.  Reducing mutagenesis and enhancing phagocytosis, cat's claw modulates excessive Th1 response, especially reducing fatigue induced by high levels of tumor necrosis factor (TNF).  Folkloric use of cat’s claw: urinary tract infections, dysentery, gonorrhea, tumors, cancers and as a contraceptive.

There have been several reports on cat’s claw’s constituents, in particular, oxindole alkaloids. It was found that 2 chemotypes of Uncaria tomentosa with different alkaloid patterns occur in nature. The roots of one type contain pentacyclic oxindoles and the other contains tetracyclic oxindoles.

This difference should be considered when the plant is to be used for medicinal applications. Tetracyclic oxindole alkaloids act on the central nervous system, whereas pentacyclic oxindole alkaloids affect the cellular immune system. Recent studies have shown that the tetracyclic alkaloids exert antagonistic effects on the action of the pentacyclic alkaloids. Mixtures of these 2 types of drugs are therefore unsuitable for medicinal uses.  Samento is a brand name of cat’s claw with only the beneficial pentacyclic oxindoles.  Allergy research’s cat’s claw is also pentacyclic beneficial (or TOAA free).

FULL BODY THERMOGRAPHY
Thermography or DITI (Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging) is a radiation free, no contact, pain free and FDA approved screening tool to visualize physiology.
Thermography measures the heat which is constantly radiating away from the surface of the skin telling us about internal autonomic function.  Breast thermography is a 15 minute non invasive screening tool. It is safe and appropriate for any woman, regardless of age; even teenagers are candidates for thermography. Thermography is especially valuable for women with dense breasts, implants, prior surgeries and premenopausal women. It is also an effective screening tool for women with a history of breast cancer in their family, women who have been on the pill or hormone replacement therapy.
Thermography can detect subtle physiologic changes that accompany breast disease, whether it is fibrocystic disease, infection, vascular disease or cancer. Mammograms, MRI, and Ultrasound are all tests of anatomy. Mammograms have radiation and cause increased cancer risk.  MRI causes a magnetic shifting of every cell in the body, is expensive, but has no radiation.  Ultrasound vibrates at high frequencies and shakes things up.  It makes little sense to me to shake up a rapidly growing fetus or a cancerous tumor.
Mammograms have not proven to prolong the life of women with breast cancer, but increase biopsies and do double women’s annual medical costs.  Early detection is a fraud since conventional oncology treatments of chemotherapy and radiation shrink tumors but allow more infection and cancer by further battering the immune system, rather than repairing it with rhythm, nutrition and lifestyle.
Because physiological changes often precede changes in anatomy, thermography offers a chance for very early detection of changes in the breast tissue. Studies show DITI has the ability to alert a woman of a developing cancer up to eight years before any other test. It is a well know fact that early detection of breast disease is crucial. This affords a woman time to make lifestyle changes and pursue other less invasive treatments to return to health.
Everyone is born with their own unique thermal fingerprint. For this reason, it is best to develop a baseline to determine unique vascular patterns. The second series of scans is taken 90 days after initial scans. This is because of the duplication pattern of cancer cells. Once a stable baseline has been established, the screening is typically done annually.
Another important use of thermal screening is to safely monitor the person who is using therapies to improve their breast health, and validate that there are returning to a healthy status. For example, women with estrogenic activity in the breasts who are balancing their hormones can watch for the changes taking place with thermography. Women who catch early vascular changes to the breast can monitor their treatment protocols and verify that they are returning to normal breast tissue.
Thermography is especially recommended for full body scans, including the head and neck. Often the root cause of increased inflammation of the lymphatic channels of the breast that leads to cancer is chronic infection of the sinuses or teeth.  Temperature sensing is also especially useful for sleuthing unexplained pain. Again, X-rays and MRIs are tests of anatomy and cannot visualize pain. Thermography can help locate the origin of pain and inflammation, and therefore improve the implementation and monitoring of treatment. Chronic inflammation is the cause of many diseases, and can be recorded and monitored with this ultra sensitive camera.

It is an accepted fact that early detection of breast disease before it is cancer is crucial. This affords a woman time to make lifestyle changes and pursue other less invasive treatments to return to health. Critical steps are quality sleep, sunrises, sunshine, exercise, organic foods, breakfast of soaked grains, seeds and nuts, crucifers, daily breast massage and wearing a bra less than 12 hours per day.
SULFUR, PROTECTS US FROM FIRE

Glutathione is the primary hydrogen ion donor.  Exhaustion of reduced glutathione is the ‘septic switch’ that shuts down cellular immunity and allows infection.  Glutathione represents the primary oxidant buffering systems in the body and is also key to detoxification of insulin and proliferative estrogens.  Glutathione exhaustion due to poor sulfur digestion or high toxic load allows high insulin levels.  High insulin promotes plummeting blood sugars and eventually insulin resistance, provoking profound stress response.

NAC (N-acetylcysteine) at 500 mg twice per day effectively boosts glutathione.  NAC in timed-release form is an effective mucolytic, relieving sinus congestion better than antihistamines or speedy decongestants.  Controlling allergy-induced gut mucus aids the assimilation of all foods.  Other clinical uses of NAC: to reduce flu symptoms or smoker's hack; cancer and cataracts; for mercury and other heavy metals toxicity; for protection from alcohol, aspirin, acetaminophen or phenacetin abuse.  NAC also reduces addictive behavior; and is useful for detoxification of a wide range of pollutants; for patients with the ammonia smell of kidney failure (uremia); for baldness, psoriasis, asthma and cystic fibrosis.  Endothelial dysfunction is improved by NAC dilating blood vessels and improving blood flow.

NAC is the essential sulfur-containing amino acid cysteine modified (acetylated) for easier absorption.  NAC and lipoic acid are small enough to cross the blood-brain barrier.  In mercury toxic folks, NAC and lipoic acid may move mercury into the brain, accentuating mental mercury symptoms, such as irritability, anger, mood swings and brain fog.  Start at lower doses with both lipoic acid and NAC to reduce the risk of mobilizing too many heavy metals at once creating redistribution problems such as brain fog or kidney damage.  Cysteine, the parent molecule of glutathione, is better tolerated by some.

To identify and rid the body of carcinogenic heavy metals, Bruce Dooley, MD has created an oral chelation system using a strong sulfurous chemical called DMPS.  He uses a defined dose of DMPS as a challenge for a urine test for heavy metals.  If one is proven toxic, he provides morning chelating DMPS followed by evening replenishment with beneficial minerals.  Check out Dr. Dooley’s website at www.mercout.com.

Sulfur-containing amino acids are necessary for restoring glutathione antioxidant-buffering systems.  Cysteine is plentiful in egg yolks, red peppers, whey, animal muscle protein, garlic, onion, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower.  Selenium, zinc, magnesium, and even vanadium help recycle glutathione.  Lipoic acid also recycles glutathione.  Add arginine, taurine, tryptophan, glutamine and/or glycine for the chemically sensitive, for irritability, migraine or seizures, resistant cardiac failure or for recurrent inflammation or infection.

BARRIERS

People with cancer most often die of infection allowed by depressed cellular immunity and general immune suppression.  We have at least three systems to keep the internal body free of infection: physical continuity, electrical-bacterial barriers, and gobbler white blood cells just inside the barriers.  Insulin disables electrical barriers and makes immune cells lazy.  Low energy states weaken the 200-millivolt electrical attraction between the aerobic epithelium and its friendly anaerobic bacterial layer.  The oxidation-reduction potential of aerobic border epithelial tissues is about +100 mV and its indigenous friendly protective microflora (plaque) is about -100 mV.

Compromised barriers are represented by dental plaque and bleeding gums, tooth decay, ear infections or sinusitis, toenail fungus, acne, gingivitis, pericoronitis and periodontitis, yeast infections, oral and skin cancers result in congestion, thickened blood and sleep apnea.   Responsive heightened humoral inflammatory response is expressed as ‘TMJ,’ arthritis, high uric acid, gouty arthritis, cysts, endometriosis (polycystic ovary) or polycystic breast, cysts elsewhere or painful unerupted or erupting teeth or even a difficult menstrual cycle.

A sensitive tooth is often the first indicator of diminished energy production.  Become aware.  When dentists measure tooth vitality electrically, the energy potential of the cell is quantified.  People with sensitive teeth are much more likely to be irritable and depressed, or even to commit suicide. Can you eat cold things with your front teeth? Diminished mitochondrial energy production may be due to water loss, mineral or toxicity; or due to lack of essential fatty acids for effective membrane channeling of electrons.  Bleeding gums are breached barriers! Take note.

Tumors act as storage vessels, an internal barrier to sequester excess toxic waste.  An electrical adhesion exists between the anaerobic tumor and the surrounding aerobic tissues.  Tumor size has little to do with survival time or quality of life.  Cancer grows to store ever-increasing toxic overload, often from our favorite foods, and from inefficient metabolism with resultant compromised detoxification.  Fatigue, irritability and depression make life not worth living.  Energy production is key happiness and recovery.  Stop sugar, especially caramelized sugar!

Cancer cells have inefficient anaerobic metabolism, a survival mechanism for low oxygen environments.  Unless the situation is surgically acute, live with this competing life form.  Get your energy back!  Stop poisoning your bacteria and your mitochondria.  Tend your body like a garden.  Walk.  Add hydrating greens (minerals, antioxidants, fiber, polarized water) and sunshine.  Rotate your foods.  Increase your electricity.  Feast on ideal fats in soaked seeds, nuts and grains for optimal membrane function.  Detoxify!  The stabilized or shrinking tumor serves as a marker of effectiveness of lifestyle and attitudinal changes.

EMOTIONS

Nothing disrupts the immune system and the normal gut flora more thoroughly than grief accompanied by indecision.  Forgiveness, prayers, gratitude, and loving friends can provide necessary emotional and spiritual support.  Ask for help.

Death, divorce, a dreaded medical diagnosis or any loss produces standard emotional responses.   Acknowledge blaming, bargaining and denial.  Blaming often brings anger, aggression, and cynicism creating chronic hostility.  A state of vigilance emerges, keeping the body in constant arousal and stress, diminishing healing.  The Bach flower essences' Rescue Remedy can help one manage these messy emotions of loss of one’s health.

Accept this challenge to define your life.   Decide what is important for you.  Find your passionate reason to live: people, plants, pets, or preservation of pet perversities.  Remember, quality counts.  Emphasize humor and gratitude, the healing emotions.    Find a coach.  Examine self-esteem issues and change toxic emotional environments.  See sunrises.  Eat breakfast.  Meditate.  Do yoga.  Breathe!

OTHER STRESS REDUCERS

A gentle exercise program reduces risk 2-4 times.   Exercise (walk) for about 20 minutes so that you breathe deeply, but can still carry on a conversation.  Stretch and warm up before; stretch and cool down after.  Cancer thrives on sugar and lack of oxygen (anaerobic metabolism).  Inositol hexaphosphate (IP-6 or phytic acid) is a mineral-binding antioxidant abundant in unprocessed grains and legumes.  IP-6 is a plentiful and potent human cell regulator that promotes the efficient release of oxygen from hemoglobin and is a major immune booster, an antiviral and cancer fighter.

THE IMMUNE (INFORMATIONAL) NATURE OF FOOD
Most (2/3 to ¾) of our immunity is involved in processing the foods we eat.  Foods with inappropriate immune information due to molecular mimicry can be our biggest stressor, diverting immune cells from the infection or non-healing wound called cancer.  Look for circles under the eyes (allergic shiners), a fine rash around the nose or above the eyes (toxemia), or a swollen, boggy tongue often with scallops (tooth dents) on its lateral borders (bloat created in an attempt to dilute allergens), flab or cellulite.
Individualized food intolerance testing is the ideal first step in rebalancing immunity.  Many specific food allergy mechanisms are known, and there are tests to screen for those.
GOING AGAINST THE UNSOAKED GRAIN

Another immune-based (informationally-based) diet approach is to eat according to blood type.  Dr. Peter D'Adamo (www.dadamo.com) has found that the highly beneficial foods for each blood type are well assimilated and tend to clump with and remove cancer cells from the body.  Immunologically inappropriate foods create stress and extra work for the already tired gobbler white blood cells.  Dried seeds, nuts and grains are stored and laced with aflatoxin, a neurotoxic, mutagenic and carcinogenic mold.  Even worse: browned, baked, toasted and roasted foods create deformed protein-sugar molecules called advanced glycation products (AGEs).
AGEs are interpreted as stress molecules similar to heat shock proteins at the gene level of the cell.

Those with type O blood thrive on fermented soy or soaked rice protein, animal flesh, pinto beans, black-eyed peas and greens such as kale, spinach and broccoli.  O's do not do well with: oranges, wheat, corn, oats, potatoes, peanuts, cashews, kidney beans, navy beans, lentils, cow's milk proteins, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and mustard greens.

Type A blood folks make the best vegetarians, do well with coffee, cultured or fermented milk, and thrive on fermented soy and seafood in the macrobiotic diet.  Type A's best avoid: red meat, cow's milk, wheat, sweet potatoes, copper beans, Garbanzo beans, kidney beans, lima beans, navy beans, red beans, the nightshades: paprika, peppers, eggplant, potato, tomato and the tropical fruits such as orange, banana, papaya, mango and pineapple.

Eliminate wheat, and sugar in all forms and corn-fed, factory-raised animals.  Consume carbohydrates from occasional organic whole fruit or 4-5 servings of fiber-rich green vegetables, 3 grams of protein to every 4 grams of carbohydrates.  Emphasize your best legumes, and if not sensitive, soy protein, miso, bean curd, tamari and tofu.  Rigid, driven folks with hard tumors do better on alkaline vegetarian fare.

Anti carcinogenic sulfurophanes are rich in garlic, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kale, cauliflower, carrots and green onion.  Their indole-3-carbinols speak to our genes so that elimination of proliferative steroid hormones is encouraged along the benign 2-hydroxy detoxification pathway.  Aim for 2-cups of such vegetables per day.  Flexible low blood pressure folks with soft tumors may do best with more acid-forming red meat, lentils and low B vitamins.  It is best to measure pH, and try dietary balance individually.

SURVIVAL SYNDROME-X (INSULIN EXCESS, INSULIN RESISTANCE)

Most people who need dental work are fat-around-the-middle obese or have upper-arm flab (the waving muscle).  Flab is evidence of stress dominance (triggered by dropping blood sugar subsequent to insulin surges) which creates the hormonal and biochemical shift to: headache, tooth decay, gum disease, sinusitis, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke and senescence.  Key concept is insulin resistance.  Chronically elevated insulin is due to high carbohydrate or any high caloric intake plus inefficient detoxification.  Cell membranes become resistant to insulin.  Diminished energy and increased inflammation ensues.

This altered metabolism (syndrome X) in its new "steady state" enhances inflammatory cysts seen in acne, painful teething, fibrocystic breast disease, polycystic ovary, kidney and liver cysts.   Insulin triggered blood sugar declines cause excessive and inappropriately timed cortisol release.  Elevated cortisol causes more and more active thyroid hormone to be formed in its ineffective reverse form, reducing thyroid activity.

Low thyroid activity diminishes immunity, creates stress, and makes one apathetic, cold and sluggish.  Procarcinogenic estrogens dominate over progesterone, further diminishing thyroid activity.  Inappropriate nighttime cortisol production diminishes growth hormone release, the pituitary’s clock-setting master anti-aging (growth and repair) hormone.

Pancreas tonic from U.S. Botanicals is an incredible mix of herbs that corrects much of this pancreatic dysfunction problem.  Two capsules before each meal markedly modulates blood sugar response.  Its patent suggests it can over time encourage regrowth of beta cells of the pancreas.

PALEOLITHIC PATTERNS

Live and eat as a caveman-woman (hunter-gatherer humans) to treat the ‘civilized diseases’ of obesity, diabetes, gout, hypertension, constipation and cancer.  The flourmill had not been invented.  Modern grains: wheat, rye, barley, corn, potatoes and millet had not been hybridized.  Primitive humans walked everywhere, ate greens, grasses like rice and often five times more fiber than we do.  Seeds, nuts and grains were rinsed, soaked and germinated.  Soups and stews were primary cooked foods.

Think how a light workout, a pleasant meal or bountiful bowel movement maximizes mood.  Natural sunlight is helpful for optimal insulin utilization; and the Qigong or walk or swim that accompanies it provides regulatory information.  Inactivity creates insulin resistance and low thyroid activity.

Return to the rhythms of the rainforest.  Expose yourself and your unprotected eyes to natural light for 1/2 hour around sunrise and 1/2 hour around sunset.  To help set body clocks take melatonin, the most powerful nighttime antioxidant in increasing doses from .3-30mg between sundown and bedtime.  If melatonin makes your next morning groggy, take it earlier or reduce the dose.  Timed-release forms more closely mimic circadian release for those who awaken during the night.

An hour of noontime sun is necessary to maker optimal levels of vitamin D, the most important hormone for apoptosis of cancer cells. Remember, have your 25-OH vitamin D levels checked in your blood and aim for optimal levels.

Increase water and fiber.  Alfalfa capsules before meals provide fiber and excellent nutrition.  Fiber sources are apples, onions, oat bran, broccoli and carrots, soaked dried peas, beans, or flaxseeds, strawberries and other fruits and vegetables.  Mix and then refrigerate one 1/2 cup of unprocessed bran and 1/2 cup applesauce with 1/3 cup of prune juice.  Take 2, then 3 or 4 tablespoonfuls after dinner followed by a glass of water. Try Cholesterade (800-290-3639) or 4-6 grams of other soluble fiber before meals such as Metagenics' Ultrafiber.  Guar gums are helpful up to 20 grams/day.

Ground flaxseed, or even better, soaked salba (chia), sesame or flaxseeds that are then ground up provide anticarcinogenic lignins, isoflavones and essential fatty acids; even the mucilaginous water from soaked flax seeds heals our barrier mucus membranes and improves glucose metabolism by 25%.  Flaxseeds soaked in water for 18-24 hours at room temperature (then refrigerated) make a nice alternative to often-allergenic soy.  Sesame seeds seem to provide similar salutary effects.

Fenugreek powder or seeds provide excellent fiber, make mucilage similar to flax, and are helpful for hot flashes and depression of menopause, for impotence in men as well as slows onset of insulin resistance and high blood sugar.

GLYCEMIC INDEX = BLOOD SUGAR RUSH
CANCER LOVES SUGAR

Glycemic index represents the sugar rush or metabolic stress of a food reflected in the blood.  Everybody’s index is different, but in general alcohol, coffee and caffeine are very destabilizing to blood sugar.  Allergy response can trigger high blood sugar, bloating, boggy tongue, cellulite, mucus, allergic shiners (dark circles under eyes), or fine "toxemic rash" around eyes.  Your individual immune triggers may simply be an 'avoid food' for your blood type, or may be found by ALCAT test, a classic IgE allergy or delayed allergy IgG ELISA blood test, and/or salivary secretory IgA testing.

High fiber and water, green vegetables, beans and nuts, animal protein and fat tend to release sugar slowly into the blood stream, creating less of a metabolic insult.  Nibble all day long.  Avoid large meals.

HIGH GLYCEMIC FOODS: Once a sugar has been baked, browned, burnt, crisped, caramelized, or toasted its misshapened molecules informationally heighten inflammatory response at the nuclear level.  Dried breakfast cereals are functionally sweeter than sugar.  White and whole wheat bread as well as water biscuits or plain crackers are functional sugar, just as is honey, maple syrup, corn syrup or cornstarch.  Hot white potatoes mashed or dry baked are sugar.

Chips or French fries have been crisped and browned and are a thousand times more stressful.  Dried fruits act like sugar.  Ripe bananas are almost like dried fruit.  Pre-processed light fluffy rice is sweet.  Puffed rice and rice cakes are sweeter than sugar.  Rice milk is high in sugar.  Drink mineralized water.  Raw onions and carrots are excellent foods, but cooked or juiced they release their sugar too fast.  Add juiced romaine to excessively sweet carrot, beet, or apple juices.  Cooked beets, parsnips, winter squashes (butternut, buttercup, and acorn) can create sugar stress.   Avoid all pasteurized commercial juices.

LOW GLYCEMIC FOODS: Combine high index foods with foods of low glycemic index (greens, fat, fiber, & flesh) to soften sugar effect.  All-bran has a low index, but is often allergenic.  Boil your soaked grains, add flavorful fat to slow sugar release.  For lower glycemic index, boil new potatoes and then lightly sauté them in butter, ghee or olive oil with parsley.

Cold starch is digested slowly making cold potato salad a low glycemic event. Sweet potatoes have low glycemic index.   White and short grain brown rice is good; sushi or sticky rice has the lowest glycemic index.  Butter or coconut oil will further soften the sugar surge.  Xylitol is a slowly digested sugar, which beneficially reduces all kinds of infections.  Eat occasional whole fruits.  When juicing, combine sweet tubers with leafy greens.  Beans have low glycemic index, but beans are powerful potential allergens.  Follow blood type for best beans.  Appropriate bean, nut and vegetable lectins tend to lock on to cancer cells, making their elimination easier.

ADDICTIVE GRAINS AND PERVERTED REWARD SYSTEM

Acknowledge addictions and avoid especially wheat and milk.  Stress (often created by eating foods that challenge one's immune system) releases endorphins, creating a "perverted reward response."  We typically become addicted to the foods that stress us the most.  Carbohydrate-induced insulin resistance creates the misery of syndrome X.  Molecular markers on many grains mimic insulin, creating excessive insulin effect and insulin resistance.  Grains to minimize are wheat, rye, barley, corn, lentils, buckwheat, potatoes and peanuts.  These modern grains were hybridized to fatten farm animals and us faster in times of famine.  Kamut, low in gluten, is more grass-like, as is rice.  Emphasize foods of low glycemic index: soaked seeds, nuts and grains, greens, proteins and fats.  Eat small meals.  Blunt carbohydrate effect with extra vegetables and fiber, legumes, amaranth, quinoa, rolled oats, fat, protein, rice, or cold-processed whey, predigested soy, milk or egg.

Just 50 grams of glucose reduces gobbler immune white blood cell activity 50%.  The whole can of soda pop plus a piece of pie (100 grams) of glucose makes those white blood cells 90% sleepy for 4-5 hours.  Before sugar, a white cell can gobble 13 bacteria; after 100 grams of sugar, it can handle only 1.  Tumors love blood sugar.   Eat foods of low glycemic index.  Lots of late night calories disable the healing potential of sleep.  Control blood sugar to prevent nerve damage, especially in the eyes, kidneys, arms and feet.  Usual and real everyday blood sugars (not fasting blood sugars) in the range of 130mg% turn on tumors.   The caveman diet keeps blood sugars more in the 78-82mg% range.  Some cancer clinics, under medical supervision, administer enough insulin to drop blood sugar low enough to cause coma, day after day, starving the tumor.  Smaller amounts of chemotherapy are driven into cancer cells and can be much more effective at lower doses.

Stevia is a leaf extract that is very sweet with a touch of taste of licorice.  Stevia is the only concentrated sweetener that supports balanced blood sugar metabolism.  Use stevia sparingly if you have weak kidneys.  Xylitol (birch sugar) has half the calories, looks and acts like table sugar, although it is a bit less sweet.  Mannitol, erythritol and sorbitol have similar actions.  These alcohol sugars have a very low glycemic index, reduce tooth decay as well as other infections and do not promote gum disease.  Folks with any condition associated with sugar imbalances, diabetes, hypoglycemia, syndrome X, chronic fatigue syndrome, candida (yeast overgrowth) or attention-deficit might find sweet solace with small amounts of these safer and therapeutic sugars.

BROWNING MAKES US TOAST

Foods of commerce quickly raise blood sugar levels to the point where the non-enzymatic caramelization (browning) of sugar occurs throughout the body, even altering permeability of the protein-sugar matrix between the cells.  This ‘leathering’ and stiffening of our proteins is called glycation or glycosylation.  Seen as brown deposits under the skin called ‘age spots,’ AGEs is the acronym for advanced glycosylation end products.  We experience these as diminished endurance or organ reserve, wrinkles, brown ‘age’ spots and decreased flexibility.  Too much browning reaction leads to senescence, Alzheimer’s disease, inflamed micro and macro vasculature, periodontal diseases, strokes, heart attacks, cancer and nerve damage.

Smoking sugar-cured tobacco, or eating browned foods, most breakfast cereals, browned beans, fried or baked chips, bread crusts, crisped, fried, baked, caramelized vegetables, toasted, sugar-cured meats such as salmon, turkey, bacon or ham, BBQ or grilling unmarinated meats or vegetables loads our bodies directly these with bad information molecules (AGEs) similar to heat shock protein.

AGEs turn on nuclear factor-kappaB (nf-KB), changing gene expression, so the inflammatory chemistry (TNF, IL-1, and IGF-1) cascade is up regulated at the cellular level.  Antioxidants are somewhat protective, especially as gene modulators.  Fresh, soaked, soups, stews, steamed or boiled seem to be the safest ways to prepare food.  Don’t let yourself become ‘toast.’

COMPLEMENTARY ONCOLOGY

Mirko Beljanski (www.beljanski.com) believed that most cancers are not caused by actual mutations in DNA, but by functional mutations caused by poor hydrogen bonding of the two strands of the double helix.  Poor hydrogen bonding causes open loops and binding spots (functional mutations) in cancerous or virally damaged DNA.  Ultraviolet light shines more freely through damaged DNA.

This simple difference allowed Dr. Beljanski to find two plants containing alkaloids that seek and repair this altered DNA, seemingly correcting hepatitis C, AIDS and many cancers.  A third extract boosts production of immune and blood-forming cells that have been disabled by chemotherapy or radiation.  A fourth extract stops or slows the fibrosis that is the major problem created by chemotherapy, radiation or surgical removal of tumors.  Beljanski’s extracts really work!

Many folks fearfully choose insurance-driven chemotherapy and radiation.  Robert Nagourney, MD has created a research laboratory called Rational Therapeutics (www.rational-t.com) in Long Beach, CA.  He tests different poisons against your cancer cells in a test tube to find the most efficient before the chemical is tested in you.  Plan before the biopsy to send him some tissue.

The Center for the Improvement of Human Functioning International, Inc., 3100 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS, 67219 promotes intravenous vitamin C as the ideal chemotherapeutic agent.  They titrate vitamin C concentrations necessary to kill cancer cells in the test tube; and then infuse vitamin C intravenously to those levels.  By adding oral lipoic acid they can reduce the cancer-killing intravenous vitamin C dose 6 times.  Combining alpha lipoic acid, grape seed extract, vitamin K1, niacinamide, biotin, selenium and quercitin enhances tumoricidal effects.  Dr. Neil Riordan freely shares the protocol (800-545-9960).

Providing another alternative to chemotherapy is M. Rigdon Lentz, MD (615-831-1222), Lentz Apheresis Center, 397 Wallace Road, Suite 314, Nashville, TN 37211, This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Blood apheresis filters tumor-produced mock tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptors from the blood, allowing our own immune cells to attack the cancer with TNF.  Nontoxic antineoplastins are offered by brave Dr. Burzynski, (713-335-5697), http://www.cancermed.com/, 9432 Old Katy Road, Suite 200, Houston, TX 77055.

ANTI ANGIOGENESIS – KEY TO SURVIVAL

It is best to inhibit metastasis before biopsy or surgical removal.  Anti-angiogensis is a key concept.  It is primarily metastasis that kills people.  Tumors need nutrients to grow, and are adept at creating a new network of blood vessels to feed them, diverting food from the rest of the body.  Antiangiogenesis stops a tumor's nutrient supply by blocking blood-vessel formation.  Sometimes the major tumor suppresses growth of minor metastasized tumors, which proliferate after removal of the primary.  Blocking angiogenesis sometimes stops tumors, and helps slow diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, psoriasis, arthritis and endometriosis.

Avascular cartilage provides antiangiogenic factors (bovine or shark 3oz/day or 1/2 tablespoon Cart T cell frozen), as does soy or flax isoflavones, or modified citrus pectin (800-782-4274).  The foundationally important pancreatic enzymes slow angiogenesis.  The formation of new cancer is prevented by ellagic acid found in raspberries, black currants, grapes, strawberries and Brazil nuts.  Similarly EGCG (epigallocatechins of green tea extracts) inhibits the ‘signaling pathway called vascular endothelial growth factor.  Also useful are licorice, skullcap, eleutherococcus, reishi, coleus forskohlii, and extracts from larch bark (arabinogalactans).

Touted as 100 times more powerful than cartilage, and more convenient, is PGM a proteoglycan extract of bindweed convolvulus arvensis (2-3 grams per day).  Faster results occur when PGM is combined with MPGC (muramyl polysaccharide-glycan complex) a purified extract of gram-positive bacterial cell walls.  MPGC enhances white cells and their gobbling ability as well as boosting interleukin 12, our body's most potent angiogenesis inhibitor (800-545-9960 or email: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ).

Women do best with any surgery during the progesterone dominant times of their monthly cycle, optimally 5 days after ovulation and before menstruation.  A Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center ten-year study of women with surgery days 1-14 for breast cancer with nodal involvement showed 43% recurrence; progesterone dominant days from ovulation to menstruation experienced 29% recurrence.

From an orthodox oncologist's point of view, vitamin therapy has two strikes against it.  Vitamins theoretically might protect the cancer from oxidative damage of radiation or interfere with the poisoning effect of the chemotherapy, or worse, confuse the results of orthodox unethical human experimental therapy.  These ‘doctors’ also use half-truths in motivating patients to take their poisons.  They tell patients that there is a certain percentage of ‘response’ with chemotherapy.  They are only talking about shrinking the tumor.  Tumor size has little to do with survival or quality of life.

Cure that confusion with information!  Hoffer and Pauling found that taking the following vitamins with water (avoiding white sugar & flour and eating more fruits & vegetables) could prolong cancer life span 12 to 20 times.  That is quality and quantity!  Advanced cancer patients, most choosing conventional therapy, some of who took their vitamins, some of who did not, were compared.  Patients with cancers of the breast, ovaries, uterus, and cervix lived 20 times longer; patients with cancers of the lung and colon, and others benefited from a 12-time increase in life expectancy.

The following regimen was divided into three daily doses:
Vitamin C   12 grams
Vitamin B3   1.5-3 grams
Vitamin B6   250 mg
Folic acid   5-10 mg
Other B vitamins  25-50 times RDA
Vitamin E (with gamma)     800 IU
Beta-carotene  25,000-50,000 IU
Selenium   200-500 mcg
Zinc sulfate   220 mg (150-mg elemental zinc)
Occasionally: a calcium, magnesium, or multimineral supplement.

Most chemotherapy kills cancer by other mechanisms than oxidation.  Oxidative collateral damage of most chemotherapy is an undesirable side effect.  Examples of oxidative stress are nausea, hair loss, fatigue, doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity, bleomycin-induced lung fibrosis, cisplatin-induced kidney toxicity and secondary malignancies.  Antioxidants soften the negative effects of the anthracyclines, alkylating agents, platinum coordination complexes and epipodophyllotoxins.

Optimally, antioxidants would saturate the body at least two weeks before chemotherapy, and continue through chemotherapy.  This reduces the adverse effects of drug-induced oxidative stress.    Kenneth Conklin, MD, PhD, Nutr Cancer, 2000, This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , 310-206-6226.  Curcurmin may help conventional cancer therapies be more effective.  Just like browned foods, the therapies of chemotherapy and alpha interferon often cause overexpression of NF-kB (nuclear factor kappa beta) a gene transcription factor often already overexpressed in cancer cells, encouraging survival and uncontrolled growth.  Curcurmin suppresses NF-kB and the pain, spasm and inflammation triggered by the enzyme system, COX-2.

NF-kB (Nuclear factor – kappa beta)
Upstream regulator of inflammatory pain – Enhances cancer cell survival

NF-kB is a primary upstream regulator of inflammation and a root cause of cancer pain.  Almost any stressor will increase expression of this cell nucleus booster of the painful and protective inflammatory response.  NF-kB blockers are:  green tea extracts, curcurmin (turmeric), vitamins A & D, resveratrol (grape skins and red wine), sulforaphane (found in crucifers, as broccoli), omega-3 fatty acids and fish liver oils, hops, rosemary, olive leaf extract, and sesquiterpenes from many essential oils including frankincense and limonene block NF-kB.  Kaprex, an anti inflammatory from Metagenics is the first available studied designer NF-kB blocker.

To help set healing body clocks and protect from radiation or chemotherapy damage, take melatonin, the most powerful nighttime antioxidant in increasing doses from 1-40 mg at bedtime.  When the dose makes you awaken groggy, reduce to the previous dose for succeeding nights.

Beneficial bacteria boost natural killer cell activity and make a big difference in recovering from chemotherapy.  Friendly bacteria are eliminated by chemotherapy, as are our natural killer cells surrounding and hopefully attacking the tumor (this makes tumors seem to shrink with chemotherapy and radiation).  Do not let just any bugs take over.  Use acidophilus orally, on your skin, and in any other handy orifice.  Friendly flora feasts on yeast.  Use the friendly yeast, saccharomyces boulardii to control itching due to unfavorable yeasts (candida) and combat clostridia difficle, which can cause life threatening diarrhea.

Be aware of yeast overgrowth or other parasites, a measure of deficient cellular immunity.  Elevated sugars, weak cellular immunity and inefficient metabolism encourage growth of fungi.  Spreading yeast or cancer is allowed by weak natural killer cell activity (T-helper-1 response).  The ‘itch’ almost anywhere, indicates attempted increased humoral or chemical compensation with heightened allergy (T-helper-2 response).    Infections with yeast or parasites may create poor sleep, tooth grinding or clenching, sugar cravings, fluid retention and throw off the appestat mechanism.   Biotin 4-16mg is key to energy production by helping the first step in glucose utilization; is also anti-yeast and for most solves dry hair and nail brittleness.  Biotin diminishes depression and diabetic nerve pain.

Vitamin K aids cell organization and controls bleeding.  Vitamin K is formed by healthy gut bacterial flora, which is often eliminated by chemotherapy or antibiotics.  Vitamin K is found in green leafy vegetables, alfalfa, egg yolks, seaweeds (kelp) and cod liver oil.  For osteoporosis, excessive calcium build-up on the teeth or bleeding gums try 50-100 mcg of menadione (vitamin K).  Remember, higher levels of vitamin K2 induce apoptosis of cancer cells. Essential fatty acids, deeply pigmented fruits, such as blueberries, cranberries, raspberries and their leaves, grapes and grape seeds, tienchi ginseng (panax pseudoginseng), gotu kola (centella asiatica), Vitamin C and Bee Pollen, Propolis from honey and gingko biloba leaf are also helpful.

BRUXISM – POOR SLEEP - PARASITES

The gut influences 60-70% of our immune system.  We become poisoned from our 'tennis court sized' inner garden if we encourage weeds to proliferate by feeding on toxic, infected, or processed foods when our natural killers are suppressed.  Chemotherapy and radiation suppress natural killer cells and eliminate natural commensal gut flora, making space for unfriendly bugs.  Emotionally stressful conversations during meals can be just as harmful.  Arthritis and other inflammations are soon to follow.

Night grinding of the teeth (that does not respond to supplemental chelated multi minerals morning and evening with a glass of water) is typically caused by an imbalanced biofilm (parasites).  People with parasites do not wake rested.  Poor sleepers are subject to all kinds of chronic pain, degeneration and psychological misery.  Excessive inflammatory mucus causes sleep apnea, another common cause of poor sleep.  Mucus is triggered by exaggerated T-helper 2 activity due to one's own environmental "threats."   NAC (n-acetyl cysteine), milk thistle (silymarin), secale in Oral Mat drops, ginger, curry (curcurmin) and pepper all combat mucus.  Excess mucus or diminished immunity is a major clue for iodine insufficiency.  If a ‘silver dollar sized’ iodine stain disappears completely before 24hours has passed, apply daily elsewhere until some smudge remains for 24hours.

BENEFICIAL AND BACTERIOCIDAL VIBRATIONS

The quickest and most gentle way of reordering the bowels is by experiencing appropriate frequencies in the Hertz ranges.  At the vibrational level, each microscopic parasite has a metabolically generated signature energy frequency.  The laws of physics say broadcasting its opposite frequency creates silence, annihilating the organism.  Many patients have reported successful reduction in bloating and marked improvement in sleep after using frequencies for three minutes each.  The frequencies used in Hertz are 1550, 880, 802, 787, 776, 727, 20, 125, 95, 72, 444, 1865, and 465.  This is the work of Royal Rife and others.

Frequencies give cancer patients more energy, aid lymphatic flow, can relax the mind, and might be able to explode cancer virus. The cancer virus seems pleomorphic and typically occurs with opportunistic infections of staphylococcus, streptococcus, yeast and herpes variants.  Sweeps around frequency 2128 disorganize cancers.  Knock back fungus, mold, and yeast with15-20 minute sweeps from frequencies 420-482 finishing at 465.  Flu symptoms mean you are killing parasites too quickly.  Frequencies provide energy and seem to give our natural killer cells time to catch up.

IF YOU CHOOSE RADIATION

The Germans offer the use of heat to terminally stress cancer cells as an alternative to carcinogenic radiation.  In America, radiation therapy has been chosen for you.  The stress of heat or radiation further weakens the hydrogen bonding between cancerous DNA strands, allowing reparative alkaloids to enter.  Beljanski’s preparations containing plant alkaloids potentiate radioactivity’s effectiveness by normalizing the cell allowing normal programmed apoptotic death.  Cat’s claw, periwinkle (vinca), coffee, noni, and bromelain also contain beneficial alkaloids.

Saturating one's body with high levels of antioxidants just before radiation might be counter-productive.  Lighten up on the water-soluble sulfhydryl antioxidants (NAC, lipoic acid & glutathione) before radiation or chemotherapy with alkylating agents or the platinum-coordination compounds (cisplatin & carboplatin).   Reduce high intakes of Vitamin E and coenzyme Q10.  Reduce vitamin C to 500-1000mg, morning and night.  Boost those potent protectors soon after chemotherapy or radiation.

Sulfated polysaccharides in concentrates of the seaweed Laminaria Japonica in Modifilan (650-853-1131) also protect against radiation damage.  Consumed over 4 months seaweeds remove toxic radiation metabolites as well as reduce heavy metals, improve well being and are a good source of iodine and selenium.  Do not forget Dr. Beljanski’s novel ginkgo fibrosis reducer (made from the golden leaves of ginkgo biloba with no effects on blood clotting, fluidity or peripheral vasodilatation).

The best-known use of medical marijuana is for the nausea of chemotherapy.  A relative of hops, marijuana probably also acts as a NF-kB blocker.  Marijuana also reduces excessive secretions and is useful for glaucoma.  Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) the most active part of marijuana, destroys many tumors in laboratory rats, and in mice slows growth of viral leukemia, lung and breast cancers.  Industry's jingoist attitudes keep unbiased marijuana information scarce.

Plant polyphenols (bioflavinoids) can have profound effects on detoxification.  Grapefruit with its bioflavinoid, niringin slows the primary pathway of excretion of many drugs, building their blood levels.  Grapefruit juice clogs a primary excretion pathway, and with planning, could reduce the cost of some expensive chemotherapeutic drugs for cancer and AIDS.  Unplanned, adding grapefruit juice, acetaminophen, antihistamines, yeast antibiotics or antidepressants can trigger a toxic overdose.

On the other hand, St. John's Wort (used as an herbal antiviral and mood elevator) enhances detoxification and excretion pathway of the same drugs and poisons compromised by grapefruit juice, lowering their toxic levels.  This is why many mainstream physicians have been scared away from St. John’s Wort.   Most of your medical doctor’s tools, prescription antihistamines, antidepressants, hormones, yeast medications and antibiotics clog this important detoxification pathway, along with grapefruit’s niringin.  These drugs have not been proven to cause cancer, only to encourage its growth, by compromising detoxification and elimination of poisons.

ESTROGENS

Estrogen (two of three human estrogens are proliferative) is associated with cancers of the breast, prostate, colon, testis, bones, ovaries, uterus, cervix, head and neck.  Estrogen dominance (big fluffy breasts or breast tenderness being primary clinical clues) is driven by xenoestrogens (artificial estrogens) or by insulin excesses.

Both insulin and the estrogens tend to be excessive when their primary detoxifier, glutathione is exhausted.  Estrogens are made in the ovaries and adrenals, recycled by gut bacteria when one is constipated and converted into active forms by aromatase enzymes in body fat.  Body fat is not a benign storage vessel for extra calories.  Fat is an organ system that manufactures inflammatory mediators such as C-reactive protein and proliferative estrogens (estrone and estradiol).

One estrogen, estriol is only mildly proliferative.  According to many experts, estriol is considered the most effective and safest estrogen. All available evidence indicates that topical estriol is the safest estrogen to use to control menopausal symptoms such as vaginal dryness or atrophy (predisposing to vaginitis or cystitis) and may even be protective against breast cancer.

Excretion of more highly proliferative estrogen metabolites, especially the DNA adduct damaging carcinogenic catechol quinones is the key.  NAC (n-acetyl cysteine) reduces catechol quinones. High estrogen activity disables thyroid hormone activation.  Thus weight gain is typically experienced when estrogen is prescribed.  Thyroid hormone drives both digestion and detoxification.  With low thyroid function, estrogen metabolites hang around.  Calcium-d-glucarate enhances glucuronidation, an important excretory step for estrogens.

The first step in eliminating estrogens is by hydroxylation (bleaching).  The healthy hydroxylation pathway is the 2-hydroxy pathway, which is enhanced by the indole-3-carbinols (I-3-C) in our vegetables (especially crucifers, flax, kudzu and soy).  Stabilized indole-3-carbinol is available in pill form, as is similar diindolylmethane (DIM).  Both I-3-C or DIM steer estrogen away from carcinogenic pathways, toward the safer 2-hydroxy pathway.

Plant lignins and flavinoids in soy or flax inhibit the aromatase enzyme and enhance estrogen excretion.  A urine test from MetaMetrix (800-221-4640) can check the ratio of 2-hydroxy to 16-hydroxy metabolites.  Xenoestrogens from plastics and pesticides push estrogen along the carcinogenic 16-hydroxy pathway.  Equine estrogens (premarin) are risky since they are detoxified along the 4-hydroxy pathway, which leads to highly carcinogenic quinones.  Proliferative insulin and estrogen quinones are removed by diet-dependent glutathione.  Weak methylation (dependant on several B vitamins) encourages the dangerous 4-hydroxy pathway.

MAGENTA TONGUE CONNOTES WEAK METHYLATION

The tongue is a mass of capillaries and muscle.  The color of the tongue represents the color of the inside of the arterial walls.  Pink is healthy, red is inflamed, and purple or magenta means low oxygen.  Weak methylation tends to cause arterial inflammation, disorganizes gene transcription, is associated with breast tenderness, cervical cancer, lung cancer, and other cancers, depression, fibromyalgia, autoimmune diseases, cognitive decline and dementia, clefts and neural tube defects (spina bifida).  Magnesium is an important cofactor for methylation, also key to sulfur-based detoxification.

Methyl donors are B12, folic acid, pyridoxine, betaine hydrochloride, SAMe, DMG (dimethyl glycine), pangamic acid (B15) and B17.  Try vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) 500-2000mcg, along with folic acid even to 10mg.  The cherry-flavored sublingual lozenge is tasty.  New liposomal-bound forms of B12 might prove to be more effective.  Methylcobalamin is the neurologically active form of B12.  Methylcobalamin at doses of 1-5mg daily boosts natural killer cell activity.  Use pyridoxine (vitamin B6) at 150-300mg or pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P-5-P), especially for the MSG sensitive folks 15-50 mg.

Urine organic acids assay is an easy, informative test that can provide many clues into the metabolic cause of disease.  Elevated plasma homocysteine demonstrates poor methylation and suggests B6, B12 and folate functional deficiencies creating susceptibility to nerve and vascular disease.

If the tongue is red, smooth or balding or tending to purple (magenta) color, and you have pain from arthritis, bursitis, or bone spurs consider betaine hydrochloride (trimethyl glycine) during or after meals.  Best to take supplemental acids 1/2 hour after meals, but certainly take with food in the stomach.  Keep increasing betaine hydrochloride dose until you get an ‘acid stomach.’  Then take one less at the next meal.  Apple cider vinegar may aid digestion as well.

UNIVERSAL ORAL VACCINE & IMMUNE BALANCER

Colostrum (first mother's milk) is now commercially available from safe cows. Colostrum contains 83 known substances including growth factors, lipids, lysozyme, lactoferrin, regulatory cytokines and cytotoxins.  Lysozyme kills the AIDS virus among others.  Lactoferrin is antioxidant and anti-inflammatory and (along with lipoic acid) is useful for getting excess iron out of the body.  Lactoferrin delivers iron for absorption and keeps iron from feeding pathogenic microbes; stimulates phagocytosis and natural killer cell response; can prevent late-phase allergic response; and also promotes analgesia.  Lactoferrin dose for treating cancer is to 1,500mg per day.

Small amounts of colostrum several times per day markedly enhance healing.  Colostrum enhances immunity against most organisms (virus, rickettsia, parasite, protozoan, bacteria, mycoplasma, yeast/fungus, and amoebae) and defuses internal and external allergens.  Topical application in liquids or sprays really speeds healing of surface wounds, strengthening the skin.  A happy tummy really speeds healing.  Colostrum enhances repair of a sick gut and provides quick effective relief for diarrhea.  Colostrum helps repair nervous system damage, burns fat and builds lean muscle, increases vitality and stamina and elevates mood.

A major accident provided the kind of gashes and scrapes that take a month or more to heal.  The scabs fell cleanly off one week later, supplementing three times per day emphasizing vitamin C, proteolytic enzymes and colostrum (both orally and topically).

ENERGY PRODUCTION

Fatigue necessitates resuscitation of mitochondrial ability to make ATP, the chemical currency of energy.  Both steroid hormones and energy are made by our mitochondria.  Avoid mitochondrial poisons of solvents, heavy metals, antibiotics, chlorinated or fluorinated water.   Walk or swim 20 minutes once or even twice per day.

The B vitamins are all important for energy, as are the organic acids and most minerals.  Big three energy cofactors are coenzymeQ10, carnitine, and NADH.   ATP is available as an effective supplement at 500-1,500mg per day, even though our collective mitochondria produce pounds daily.  Alpha-ketoglutarate 1,500-3,000mg sometimes shores up a key stage in energy production.  The easy morning urine organic acids assay is useful to evaluate this need and many others.

Niacin (vitamin B3) or nicotinic acid is a key player in energy metabolism.  Build up to niacin orally in divided doses 1,000-3,000mg per day.  Start slowly because niacin's nicotinic acid form triggers histamine release, often causing itching, hot, red, fiery skin.  Taking an anti-inflammatory 20 minutes before nicotinic acid often mitigates the flush.

Niacin has three other especially favorable forms: niacinamide, inositol hexanicotinate and NADH.  Niacinamide is also used for arthritic pain (500-1,500mg).  In higher doses, niacinamide defuses autoimmune destruction of our body's organs by promoting the anti inflammatory peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) thus inhibiting NF-kB, tumor necrosis factor, and nitric oxide production.  Inositol hexaniacinate 400-1800mg reduces cholesterol, does not cause the flush and provides beneficial calming and centering inositol.  NADH is the reduced form of niacin and most biologically active.  NADH 2–6mg also reduces Parkinson's symptoms with second and third doses.

ARGININE AND LYSINE

A diet too dominant in lysine-rich animal proteins encourages metabolic syndrome X, creates liver stress and raises blood cholesterol; a diet dominant in arginine-rich plant proteins normalizes cholesterol.  This effect disappears when the proteins are hydrolyzed (broken down into their individual amino acids).  Try L-arginine, at 1,000mg twice daily.  Arginine aids nitric oxide release, allowing vasodilatation, relieving high blood pressure, angina or migraine, allowing better sexual function.

Nitric oxide is also released by allergies and histamine, low oxygen states, carbon monoxide and poor iron.  Look for balance, excessive nitric oxide release (blunted by 1-3gms niacinamide) triggers oxidation and is associated with arthritis, chronic open angle glaucoma, cognitive decline and Parkinson's.

Arginine is also the building block of herpes viruses.  Herpes outbreaks are encouraged when arginine dominates over lysine in the diet. Chocolate, nuts, peanuts, peas, gelatin (Jell-O), seeds, cereal grains, and raisins are all rich in arginine.  Eating too many dry seeds or downing a box of chocolate covered nuts can easily awaken dormant herpes.  Soaking or germinating seeds, nuts or grains increases the lysine, while reducing arginine. Wheat, wheat germ or gluten is most often associated with outbreaks of mouth ulcers.  A portion of the gluten molecule mimics herpes 6, which displaces a cytokine (ICAM-2, an intracellular adhesion molecule) responsible for keeping our cells adherent to each other, thus allowing ulceration, eruptions and fissures.

Substituting the competing amino acid lysine slows the herpes virus.  Lysine is relatively high in avocados, beans and soybeans, chicken soup, turkey, duck, wild game, ricotta, cottage cheese, potatoes and brewers yeast.  Supplemental L-lysine (500mg, 2-10 tablets per day) has proven to be beneficial during a herpes outbreak.  One tablet per day is taken as a preventive, or more to balance supplemental arginine.  Lysine is also available in an excellent topical cream.

Lysine also reduces calcium loss in the urine making for stronger bones, and reducing risk to kidney stones.  In pilot studies lysine helped reverse cardiovascular disease.  The lysine metabolite carnitine helps burn fats and promotes stamina.  Another metabolite, caproic acid, enhances the fluidity of blood.  One might try L-lysine 500 mg twice a day, L-proline 500 mg, and L-carnitine 500 mg.  These amino acids unclog arteries and help make collagen, our primary connective tissue fiber.

BALANCING pH

Perhaps the best way of determining one’s best ratio of plant to animal protein is by following urine pH.  If taking mega doses of vitamin C does not seem to work, check urine pH.  If the teeth stay loose, check urine pH.  Keeping pH near its buffered center of 6.4-6.5 is foundational for healing.  Daily patterns of anabolism and catabolism can be followed with urine dipsticks. We are naturally most achy, irritable and alkaline 3-5 AM & PM and best do our heavy exercise as well as acid grains and proteins between 5-8 AM & PM.  Brunch or lunch time flowing into nap time and bed time are best alkaline vegetarian times along with breath work, light calisthenics, singing or chanting.

Degeneration and osteoporosis are the result of chronic excessive acidity.  And yes, you can get too alkaline.  Perfect vegetarians sometimes become too alkaline.  The production of inflammatory oxidative leukotrienes explosively adds to the alkaline load.  The alkaline crisis is usually filled with pain, spasm and cramps.  Charts can predict likely pH outcomes, but you best measure the effect of individual food choices on your urine.

Cesium is a famous alkalizing mineral and cancer therapy.  It is available in liquid form from Eniva Corporation, along with other cell-normalizing supplements (VIBE & selenium).  Cesium, a naturally occurring alkaline element, has been shown to affect cancer cells two ways. First, cesium limits the cellular uptake of the nutrient glucose, starving the cancer cell and diminishing fermentation.  Second, cesium raises the cell pH to the range of 8.0 neutralizing lactic acid and stopping pain within 12 to 24 hours.  A pH range of 8.0 is a deadly environment for the cancer cell. The cancer cell dies within a few days and is absorbed and eliminated by the body.

ANTIOXIDANTS CHANGE GENE RESPONSE

Large doses of ascorbic acid are best when in alkaline crisis. Long term, vitamin C is best in buffered or neutral ascorbate forms, 2,000-12,000mg or more orally in divided doses.  Buffered vitamin C powders to bowel tolerance make an excellent weekly enema (3/4 of that dose defines the daily divided dose for the next week).

Vitamin E 400-1200 IU works best as the mixed natural form with the tocotrienols.  Balance vitamins A and D with 3-6 (taste better frozen) capsules of cod liver oil.  Vitamins A and D, and essential fatty acids are both required for healing and reduce pain.  Cod liver oil is one of the most convenient combinations unless you like seaweed, salmon, sardines and mackerel.  Much exaggeration has been made about the potential toxicity of vitamin A.  Keep doses of synthetic vitamin A below 10,000 IU if pregnant or taking the birth control pill.  If you are old enough to read this article and have poor night vision, doses of 50,000-100,000 IU of vitamin A are encouraged for a couple of weeks.  That is 5-10 tablespoonfuls of cod liver oil per day.  Aim for 1-2 tablespoonfuls per day for regular supplementation.

Vitamin K family deserves mention too.  Larger doses of vitamin K2 have been shown to induce apoptosis in cancer cells.  Allergy Research Group provides a Full spectrum vitamin K with 3000 mcg of K2 and other balancing vitamin D and tocotrienols.  Vitamin K keeps blood fluid, encourages healthy clotting and keeps calcium in the bones (when higher doses of vitamin D without adequate supplemental minerals might pull calcium from the bones).  During the stress response, bones dissolve releasing 10% magnesium which is immediately used and 90% calcium which deposits in alkaline areas of inflammation in arteries, lymph nodes and channels, kidneys (or their bladder) or on the teeth.

Adding 400-1,200 IU of natural mix vitamin E balances vitamins A and D.  Vitamin E reduces toxicity from vitamin C, reduces pain and scarring.  Beta-carotene is a wonderful nutrient, but it must be oxidized and split in half to form vitamin A, a sluggish process if the thyroid is weak, or if one is taking excessive antioxidants.  By itself, beta-carotene is an unbalancing hormone and should be taken as part of a blend of natural carotenoids.  All of the essential fats and fat soluble vitamins as well as plant pigments send balancing messages of abundance to the nuclear steroid receptors.  This is an easy way to encourage cancer cells to commit cell suicide.

   NERVE REPAIR AND MORE

CoQ-10 at 60-300mg will tighten puffy gums, reduce high blood pressure and increase energy.  Coenzyme Q10 is a pivotal electron shuttler in the mitochondria.  Alpha-lipoic acid (thioctic acid) is taken at 300mg twice per day (works best with thiamin).  Lipoate aids liver detoxification and helps to repair damaged nerves.  Better to gradually build up to the 300mg dose, especially if there is any brain fog due to circulating heavy metals.  Lipoic acid is effective at enhancing insulin utilization; in some folks, blood sugar drops too rapidly causing hypoglycemic symptoms.

Pancreas tonic is an ancient Aurveydic formula patented to cure diabetes, even restoring islet cells of the pancreas and it has been working wonders leveling blood sugars, improving vision and relieving burning feet.

Organic germanium often helps energy production, offers relief from fatigue and depression, and combats herpes by activating T-helper-1 (natural killer cells) and inducing endogenous interferon production.  Germanium sesquioxide works at quite variable doses, from 150-1000mg per day.  Germanium has been effectively used to control latent Herpes Zoster reactivation and is effective in latent Cytomegalovirus or EBV infection.  Germanium works synergistically with CoQ10 and DMG (methyl donor).

Ellagic acid, useful for stopping metastasis, is found in raspberries, black current, strawberries, grapes and some nuts including Brazil nuts protects myelin sheathing at nerves and reduces stroke risk.

FATS

"Improved carnitine" is acetyl-n-carnitine (best to refrigerate) 500-1,000mg for prevention and, advantageous at 1,500-2,500mg/day to treat nerve damage; improve mood, memory and cognition.   L-Carnitine assists coenzyme Q10 in energy production and helps to process lipids and move fats into correct compartments as well as builds muscle mass in doses of up to 3 grams/day.

Carnosine (1,000mg per day on empty stomach) helps membranes repair, and may reverse some of the protein-glycation stiffness of aging.  Carnosine protects as an antioxidant, reduces inflammation, breaks disabling sugar linkages, quenches toxic aldehydes and chelates heavy metals.  Carnosine with vitamin E should be helpful for regressing cancer, neurological degeneration, cataracts, muscle atrophy, and in aiding brain circulation.  Large doses of carnosine and information are available: Life Extension (800-544-44440) www.lef.org.

Inositol (myo-inositol) repairs nerve damage and improves memory.  D-chiro-inositol at 1,000-1,500mg per day promotes insulin sensitivity.   Choline 1,000 - 3,000mg lowers toxic homocysteine and is also found in lecithin granules, 5-20grams.   Food rich in choline is egg yolk, soaked or fermented soybeans, cabbage, soaked peanuts and cauliflower.

Phosphatidyl choline is the primary constituent of the cell membrane and large doses can help ‘change your oil,’ improving membrane function.  A tea brewed from oriental club moss (Huperzia serrata) raises acetylcholine levels by inhibiting its esterase.

Phosphatidyl serine (PS) 200-900mg daily is worth taking separately along with your vitamin E.  Phosphatidyl serine improves brain function and blunts excessive cortisol response.  Take PS in the evening.  Try 3-8grams of fish oils containing EPA and DHA, both necessary for nerve repair.  Balancing GLA is found in 1,000-1,500mg borage oil, (also found in evening primrose or black current oil).

CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) dosed at 3-4grams per day is a novel triglyceride that activates nuclear receptors to enhance insulin sensitivity and lower blood sugar, thus promoting lean body mass.  CLA is a PPARs helper and builds bone, increases metabolism, and promotes cartilage repair, helping arthritics.  In animals, CLA is anti-mutagenic and reverses atherosclerosis.

AVOID TRANS FATS

Avoid artificially hydrogenated (hardened) fats!  These specially processed oils, vegetable shortenings, and margarines have had their molecular shape changed.  These "wrong sided" molecules jumble membranes when integrated into them.  If 2% of fat consumed is artificially hydrogenated, mitochondria begin to clog up, compromising energy production, raising risk to diabetes 39%.  The typical American derives 3% of calories from trans fats.  Even the primary way the liver excretes cholesterol becomes compromised.

Fat in the diet tends to become like fat in the body.  Liquid fats make us fluid and supple, enhancing circulation and oxygenation.  Artificially hardened fats make us sluggish and "lard like".  Use coconut butter, butter, and ghee for flavor and cooking.  They contain beneficial saturated fats.

MINERALS

Availability of practically all minerals is at risk due to weak gut function, poor kidney function; and continued mineral loss compensating for stress-induced chronic catabolic acidosis.  Negative mineral balance creates sensitive teeth and irritability, setting the stage for pain.

Calcium can be supplemented at 200-800mg per day.  Excess insulin might be considered a biochemical compensation for ionized calcium deficiency by enhancing glucose metabolism, thus increasing acidity and availability with produced organic acids.

Magnesium calms irritability at 200-800mg per day; perhaps along with malic acid 600-1,200mg per day to aid energy production (malic acid is found in apples or apple cider vinegar, citric acid in lemons helps energy too).  Magnesium can effectively keep the bowels moving, reducing constipation.  Excessive magnesium can make transit time of food in the bowels too short (less than 18 hours) for effective absorption.  Outside of sleepiness, too rapid of a transit time is a common mistake with magnesium.

Zinc 30-90 mg, manganese 5-20 mg, and copper 2-4 mg (as copper sebacate, glycinate, or other SOD precursor) are special support for the mitochondria.

Selenium (200-mcg daily) reduces cancer death rate by fifty percent.  We use amounts up to 5 times that level (1mg selenium per day) in folks with heavy-metal load and immune dysfunction.  The heavy-metal toxic three: lead, cadmium, or mercury all compete with most minerals and selenium, a key cofactor for thyroid function and glutathione production.  Sulfur metabolism largely depends on selenium and methyl donors too.  Methylation controls (wild) gene expression.

Folks replete in beneficial minerals rarely exhibit symptoms of irritability, mood swings and anger associated with heavy metals.  Take multi-min chelates morning and night with a full glass of non-chlorinated, non-fluoridated water.  Chelated minerals benefit from an electromagnetic transport system that helps them cross cell membranes.  Eat 3-5 servings of raw greens daily; if cooked, add Himalayan salt.

Chromium picolinate has the best research and reputation for helping glucose metabolism, or chromium nicotinate or chromium glutathionicotine at 200-1,000mcg daily.  Improves glucose tolerance and lowers blood lipids.  If you exercise, chromium helps increase muscle mass.

Vanadyl sulfate 15-30mg helps shuttle electrons and mimics insulin.  The risk-reward ratio for vanadyl sulfate is not high.   Micro doses of vanadium may have homeopathic effect and be safer.
DIURETICS

A plump cell is electric and can bounce, build and repair.  A dehydrated cell is rigid, stressed, catabolic, craving nutrients and open to invasion.  Oils in the membranes keep the water inside.  Lack of enough dietary fat (look for chapped lips or dry skin), stress, allergic response or the following diuretics cause mineral loss! Drink mineralized or alkalized water!

 Diuretics:      Distilled water
Coffee and teas (also reduce absorption 40-80%)
   Sodas
   Alcohol
   Vomiting
   Diarrhea
   Excessive urination
   High animal protein
   High simple sugars
   Mega dose Vitamin C
   Sweating
Stress (emotional, skipping breakfast or lack of greens)

Large amounts of single-mineral supplements can be counterproductive.  Taking a daily dose of minerals all at once is not nearly as beneficial as small frequent doses of multi minerals taken with water throughout the day!  Dehydration produces the same symptoms as lack of minerals.  Food cravings or irritable alertness (vigilance) may simply be expressions of thirst or need for minerals, especially magnesium.

HERBAL SUGAR BALANCERS

Cinnamon increases efficiency of insulin at 1-2 teaspoonfuls (5-10grams) up to two tablespoonfuls.   An extract of cinnamon, MHCP (methyl hydroxy chalcone polymer) increases cellular glucose oxidation by twenty times, improves the function of insulin receptors, and is a strong antioxidant.  Ginseng (3 grams) improves glucose tolerance.  Mormordica charantia (bitter melon) at 2-12ounces or coccinia indica (Ivy gourd) juice daily lowers blood sugar.

Turmeric (as 500mg of curcumin 3/day) stimulates bile production, lowers cholesterol, increases fluidity of blood, and reduces inflammatory pain.  By suppressing NF-kB and COX-2 (pro-inflammatory enzyme) curcumin reduces risk to colon cancer and alleviates arthritic conditions.  Use garlic and ginger liberally in food.  Aged-fermented garlic in capsules is better tolerated when heroic levels are used.

Eat onions, but big cooked sweet onions can be a sugar rush. Holy basil (ocimum sanctum) is useful at 1-4grams of dried leaf daily.  Go for the pesto!  Sage, lavender, bear berry (uva ursi), hops and oregano prevent diabetes.  Two to four ounces per day of okra juice and as a steamed vegetable is helpful.  Dandelion greens juiced daily can normalize diabetics.  Use bitters for the disease of sweetness.

Try Wakunaga's Ginkolic, which contains gingko, aged-fermented garlic and Siberian ginseng 3-4 capsules per day, or a combination of bilberry, dandelion, gotu kola and gingko biloba.  Prickly pear cactus flesh diced in salads or tacos, or juiced lowers blood sugar.  Both seed and fruit of the rose apple as 1 gram of powdered herb is a powerful hypoglycemic.  Gymnema sylvestre (gurmar) a source of hydroxy-citric acid at 500-1,000mg before meals is helpful, especially for weight loss.  Gurmar promotes insulin secretion (but might increase blood pressure).  Gymnema sylvestre repairs liver, kidney and muscle tissue and improves cholesterol and triglyceride levels.  Since excessive insulin secretion is part of the problem in many diabetics, gurmar may be better for an insulin dependent diabetic. Many of these herbs are in Pancreas Tonic.

Drink plenty of mineral water.  Get your energy directly from a large variety of green vegetables.  Eat like a peasant.  Seaweeds are nourishing and antiviral.  The best use of "empty" distilled water is making teas.   Beneficial teas may be made from the leaves of blueberries, huckleberries, mulberries, eucalyptus, olive or cooked snow peas, or string beans or burdock root.  Senna leaf will lower blood sugar and loosen the stool.

Other foods helpful for diabetics are green tea, nutmeg, bay leaf, cashew, celery, cayenne, coriander seeds, lettuce, cabbage, turnips, papaya fruit, cranberry, Jerusalem artichoke.  Chickweed (stellaria media), burdock root, and nettle tea break down fats and reduce appetite.  Skullcap relaxes, lowers eye pressure and removes fat from the system.  Repair genes with purees or pills of cooked asparagus or canned-cut asparagus spears 2-4 tablespoons, morning and night.  Asparagus modulates blood sugar, reduces high blood pressure, boosts white blood cell activity, prevents metastasis of middle and late-stage cancers, as well as repairs damaged DNA.

Convenient and foundational is an herbal "blood purifying" tonic or tea such as Essiac, Floressence or Hoxey (has iodine for mucus or low thyroid).  It is best that the herbs (burdock root, sheep sorrel, slippery elm bark, and turkey rhubarb) be organically grown in the USA.  Bough tips of the yew tree (Taxus brevifolia) can be also added, as they promote normal cell division, are anti-inflammatory promoting joint flexibility, anti-viral, and an immune stimulant, useful for sinus, nose, stomach, kidney and lung function.  To liver cleanse add dandelion or milk thistle with its active bioflavinoids, silymarin to the tonic.  Try kimpira (mountain root - burdock root) at Japanese restaurants, and eat immune-boosting seaweeds too!

AROMATHERAPY

Essential oils of bitter fennel, dill and coriander have been found to normalize blood sugar.  These powerful essences of plant chemistry contain penetrating information molecules (sesquiterpenes) that speak directly to our genes.  Many essential oils are anti viral, anti bacterial, or anti fungal, relieve pain, calm the spirit and are potent NF-kB blockers and immune regulators.

BREAKFAST BLENDER MAGIC

All animals are programmed to eat at first light.  If we do not put a full, sustaining breakfast into our stomach early, the body eats itself.  Stress overwhelms repair. Soaked seeds, nuts and grains, soaked beans with soaked rice, fermented soy, fermented goats milk, organic eggs and other animal proteins typically make an ideal breakfast. Stress mechanisms dissolve skin, muscles, bone and even teeth, preserving fatty flab.  Stressed apoptotic signaling causes the body to preserve fat, nerve and inflammatory white blood cells as well as cancerous defective cells.  Check for ‘strawberry spots’ on the tongue, the sign of excessive stress messaging.

The most efficient and digestible breakfast or snack is a shake.  Aloe might cure.  Blend a palm sized chunk of peeled fresh aloe, a heaping tablespoon full of Kyogreen or Greens+, one tablespoon of flax seed oil or soaked flax, chia (salba) or sesame seeds with organic cow’s or goat yogurt or two scoops of soy or whey based Ultrameal with 8-10 oz. of water for a quick meal.  Add soaked seeds and nuts, cold processed whey protein or extra soy protein until the shake sustains you without hunger for many hours.  If you get hungry 2-3 hours later, the percentage of carbohydrates is too high.  Add more protein to compensate for fruit, as blueberries or cherries.

You can throw many vitamins, capsules, oils, and powders directly into a ‘shake.’  Stop swallowing all those pills.  Allergy research group has created ‘immune powder,’ that contains the equivalent of many pills in a scoop of powder.

BUDWIG DIET
Six times Nobel award nominated doctor says this essential nutrient combination actually prevents and helps the body to cure cancer!  Robert Willner, M.D.,Ph.D. (author of "The Cancer Solution").
Dr. Johanna Budwig Mix:  Put in your blender:
1 cup Organic cottage cheese (low fat, not too hard a one, best make your own) (or yogurt).
2-5 Tbsp. of flaxseed oil.
1-3 Tbsp. of freshly ground up flaxseed (coffee grinder ($15) works fine) plus
enough water to make it soft.  (Dr. Green prefers overnight soaked seeds blended with goat yogurt and Red Alert berry powder.)
optional: little garlic
               little red pepper (cayenne)
               little champagne
Make it very soft.  Eat some of it every day.
(P.S.  Adjust quantities for your taste!)
The Flaxseed (Linseed) oil diet was originally proposed by Dr. Johanna Budwig, a German biochemist and expert on fats and oils, in 1951 and recently re-examined by Dr. Dan C. Roehm M.D. FACP (Oncologist and former cardiologist) in 1990.  Dr. Roehm claims: "this diet is far and away the most successful anti-cancer diet in the world".
Budwig claimed that the diet is both a preventative and a curative. She said the absence of linoleic-acids [in the average western diet] is responsible for the production of oxidase, which induces cancer growth and is the cause of many other chronic disorders.
The beneficial oxidase ferments are destroyed by heating or boiling oils in foods, and by nitrates used for preserving meat, etc.

The theory is: the use of oxygen in the organism can be stimulated by protein compounds of sulfuric content, which make oils water-soluble and which is present in yogurt, cheese, nuts, onion and vegetables such as leek, chive, onion and garlic, but especially cottage cheese (or ricotta).  Ferments of cell respiration closely connected with the highly unsaturated fatty acids, are also needed for proper oxidation.
It is essential to use only unrefined, cold-pressed oils with high linoleic acid content, such as flaxseed (linseed), hemp, chia (salba), sunflower, soya, poppy seed, walnut and corn oils. Such oil should be consumed together with foods containing the right proteins otherwise the oils will have the OPPOSITE EFFECT, causing more harm than good.

The best combination is cottage cheese and linseed oil. The linseed is best freshly ground.  Carbohydrates containing natural sugar, such as dates, figs, pears, apples and grapes, are also included (sparingly) in the diet. Honey is also beneficial in tiny doses.  Most of the synthetic vitamin A preparations are unfavorable because they contain oxidation products, but much carotene as provitamin A (from carrot) is consumed.  Vitamin Bs from buttermilk, yogurt and natural yeast is beneficial.
A person requires daily about 4 oz. of cottage cheese mixed well with 1.5 oz. of linseed oil and 1 oz. of milk.  A blender or egg beater works fine.  The mixture can be sweetened with stevia or a bit of honey or otherwise flavored naturally.  Fresh fruits can be added (especially berries).  Every morning 2 spoonfuls of freshly ground linseed oil best be taken in luke warm buttermilk or yogurt.

The diet is indicated for all kinds of chronic diseases, especially heart ailments (coronary thrombosis), gall bladder disorders, diabetes, arthritis and malignancies.  It improves failing hearing and sight.  It is the ideal nutrient for children and infants.  It is suggested that this diet be supplemented with lactic acid ferments.

"What she (Dr. Johanna Budwig) has demonstrated to my initial disbelief but lately, to my complete satisfaction in my practice is: CANCER IS EASILY CURABLE, the treatment is dietary/lifestyle, the response is immediate; the cancer cell is weak and vulnerable; the precise biochemical breakdown point was identified by her in 1951 and is specifically correctable, in vitro (test-tube) as well as in vivo (real)... “(Roehm, "Townsend Letter for Doctors", July 1990).
GENERAL RULES

Patient has no nourishment on day #1 other than 250 ml (8.5 oz) of Flax Oil with honey plus freshly squeezed fruit juices (no sugar added!).  In the case of a very ill person, champagne may be added on the first day in place of juice and is taken with the Flax Oil and honey.  Champagne is easily absorbable and has a serious purpose here.

1) SUGAR IS ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN. Grape juice (today very high in fluoride) may be added to sweeten any other freshly squeezed juices.  Today we actually encourage a couple teaspoonfuls per day of ‘alcohol’ sugars: xylitol, mannitol, erythritol and sorbitol.  They have low glycemic effect and reduce infections 30-40%.
2) Other 'forbiddens' are:

- All animal fats (range fed and organic sources ok).
- All Salad Oils (this included commercial mayonnaise)
- All Meats (chemicals & hormones)
- Butter (organic spring time butter with CLA ok)
- Margarine
- Preserved Meats ( preservatives block metabolism even of Flax Oil)

3) Freshly squeezed vegetable juices are fine – romaine, carrot, celery, apple and red beet.

4) Three times daily a warm tea is essential – Essiac, peppermint, rose hips or grape tea - all sweetened as desired with xylitol, stevia or honey.  One cup of black or green tea before noon is fine.

DAILY PLAN

Before breakfast - a glass of Acidophilus milk or Sauerkraut juice is taken.

Breakfast - Muesli (regular cereal – grains best soaked overnight) is overlaid with 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of Flax Oil and honey and fresh fruit according to season - berries, cherries, apricots, peaches or grated apple. Vary flavors from day to day.  Use any soaked nuts except peanuts!  Herbal teas used as desired or black tea.  A 4 oz (120 g) serving of THE SPREAD (directions below). This is fine to eat 'straight' like custard, or add it to other foods taken in the day as you will see.

Morning tea (10am) - A glass of fresh juiced romaine, carrot juice, apple, celery or beet-apple juice is taken.

Lunch - Raw salad with yogurt-Flax Oil Mayonnaise (directions below).
In addition to 'greens' salads, use grated turnips, carrots, kohlrabi, radishes, sauerkraut or cauliflower.  A fine powder of horseradish, chives or parsley may be added for flavor.

Cooked Meal Course - Steamed vegetables, potatoes, or such grains as rice, buck-wheat or millet may be served.  To these add either THE SPREAD or THE MAYO - for flavor and to up your intake of Flax Oil.  Also mix THE SPREAD with cold potatoes for an especially hearty low glycemic meal.  Add caraway, chives, parsley or other herbs.

Dessert - Mix fresh fruit other than those used for breakfast with THE SPREAD, this time (instead of honey), flavored using cream of lemon, vanilla or berries.

Afternoon Tea (4pm) - A small glass of natural wine (no preservatives) or champagne or fresh fruit juice with 1-2 tablespoons of previously soaked and dried honey-coated Flax Seeds or maple-ginger pumpkin seeds.

Supper - Have this early; at 6pm.  Make a hot meal using buckwheat, oat or soy cakes.  Grits from buckwheat are the very best and can be placed in a vegetable soup, or in a more solid form of cakes with herbal sauce.  Sweet sauces & soups can always be given far more healing energy by adding THE SPREAD. Only honey or grape juice can be used for sweeteners.  NO white sugar (or brown!) We also like stevia and/or xylitol, erythritol or mannitol.  Only freshly squeezed juices and NOT reconstituted juices (preservative danger) may be used. These must be completely natural.
How to prepare 'THE SPREAD'

Place 250 ml (8.5 oz) Flax Oil into a mixer bowl and add one pound (450 g) of 1% Cottage Cheese (ie low fat eg Quark) and add 4 tablespoons (60 ml) of Honey. Turn on the mixer and add just enough low fat milk or water to get the contents of the bowl to blend in together. In 5 minutes, a preparation of custard consistency results that has NO taste of the oil (and no oily 'ring' should be seen when you rinse out the bowl).

Alternatively, you can use Yogurt instead of Cottage Cheese in proportions of 1 oz (30 g) of Yogurt to 1 tablespoon (15 ml) each of Flax Oil and of honey and blend as above.

NOTE: When Flax Oil is blended like this, it does not cause diarrhea even when given in large amounts.  It reacts chemically and emulsifies with the (sulfur) proteins of the cottage cheese, yogurt, etc.

How to prepare 'THE MAYO' (Mayonnaise):

Mix together 2 tablespoons (30 ml) Flax Oil, 2 tablespoons (30 ml) milk, and 2 tablespoons (30 ml) Yogurt.

Then add 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of Lemon juice (or Apple Cider Vinegar) and add 1 teaspoon (2.5g) Mustard plus some herbs such as marjoram or dill.

Next add 2 or 3 slices of health food store pickles (no preservatives! - read label!) plus a pinch of herbal salts.
(The above mayonnaise plus lots of mustard and a few bananas is very tasty!)

The champagne vehicle IS easier to assimilate and get someone almost on their death-bed going again.  A retention enema of 250 ml (8.5 oz) of oil is another route to get this precious life-furthering, ELECTRON-RICH oil into the body.  It can also be applied to the skin for transdermal absorption. I'll answer your questions and give you "special orders" for you particular case.

You will have to remain on this diet for a good 5 years, at which time your tumor may have disappeared.  Persons who break the rules of this diet, Dr Budwig reports, (ie eating preserved meats, candy, etc) will sometimes grow rapidly worse and cannot be saved after they come back from their spree (bon-bons mean bye-bye).

In 1967, Dr Budwig broadcast the following sentence during an interview over the South German Radio Network, describing her incoming patients with failed operations and  x-ray therapy":

"Even in these cases it is possible to restore health in a few months at most, I would truly say 90% of the time".

"This has never been contradicted, but this knowledge has been a long time reaching this side of the ocean, hasn't it? Cancer treatment can be very simple and very successful once you know how. The cancer interests do not want you to know this.

May those of you who have suffered from this disease (and I include your family and friends in this) forgive the miscreants who have kept this simple information from reaching you for so long".

"I only wish that all my patients had a PhD in Biochemistry and Quantum Physics to enable them to see how with such consummate skill this diet was put together. It is a wonder.”  Dan C. Roehm, M.D. FACP
ENZYMES FROM THE PANCREAS

Pancreatic/proteolytic enzymes in large consistent quantities (primarily taken on an empty stomach) dissolve tumors and speed healing.   Enzymes are a time-honored natural remedy for inflammation (spasm, swelling, pain and loss of function).   Enzymes stop the cascading 24 hour process of swelling and bruising after injury or surgery.  Whether the enzymes are produced by our body, or come from a bottle, they have anti-inflammatory effects.  When most food was uncooked, nature supplied many enzymes.  Juicing supplies many enzymes.  Dry grains, seeds, nuts and nuts butters contain enzyme inhibitors.  Soaking seeds (pumpkin, flax, rice and sesame) 24 to 48 hours hydrolyzes and disarms the enzyme inhibitors and generates ideal living vital digestible fiber-fat-protein-enzyme source.

Intenzymes* (Wobenzyme) or Metagenic’s Spectrazyme or Metazyme mimic complex protein molecules produced by our own pancreas.  Production of enzymes requires many intricate metabolic processes.   When stress is high, energy low or fatigue is present, these processes are compromised. The gut has sites that reclaim intact our own, or extract similar intact plant or animal enzymes from the raw diet.  Cooking destroys natural enzymes.  Sugar disables protein-digesting enzymes.  We produce fewer enzymes if we're stressed, fatigued, over 35 years of age, have low body temperature or are malnourished.  Coated tongue indicates enzyme insufficiency.

Enzymes are effective against most "itis's" including periodontitis, arthritis, sinusitis, cystitis, prostatitis, laryngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia or asthma, allergies, miscarriages or pelvic inflammatory disease, or painful swollen lumpy breasts.  Enzymes dismantle the wall around infection allowing increased penetration of antibiotics.  Healing process of abscesses and fistulas, boils, carbuncles, hematomas (bruises) is quicker, with or without antibiotics.  Enzymes help release TNF making them an important treatment for viruses and tumors.

Taken with food, two or three-enzyme tablets aid digestion, help cleanse the colon and reduce risk to diabetes.  Allergenic potential of foods is reduced, but there will be only mild anti-inflammatory effect on the rest of the body.  Enzymes taken in quantity on an empty stomach between or before meals, creates significant systemic anti-inflammatory and mood-enhancing effects.  The walls of arteries and veins become cleaner are more slippery, the blood becomes more fluid, skin conditions improve; the articulating surfaces of joints become less sticky, stiff and sprained joints become more mobile, antigen-antibody complexes are broken down, swelling and pain is reduced, insomnia and depression disperses.

A typical dose of Intenzymes would range from 2-10 tablets, depending on body size and severity of the injury.  Dr. Nick Gonzalez of New York uses doses of porcine pancreatic enzymes of 35-135 capsules per day with aggressive cancers.  Too rapid breakdown of tumors releases painful poisons.  Milder doses induce apoptosis, especially if there are few competing enzyme inhibitors from dried grains, seeds or nuts.  Coffee enemas help remove poisons and the pain.  Larger doses are best tapered over the week with subsequent decreasing dosage, resting a day each week.  The first dose of the day might be upon awakening, with the second dose somewhere between lunch and dinner, the last dose before bed - or even if awakened in the middle of the night.

Plant enzymes are also effective.  Bromelain from pineapple reduces edema and inflammatory pain at 2 tablets (400,000 Rorer units), 4 times per day.  Bromelain is sometimes harsh on the stomach, but is an effective vegetarian substitute.  Papain from papaya has similar effects and has been used every hour in crisis.  Aspergillus has been cloned to manufacture similar proteases, lipases and amylases.

THYROID AND ADRENALS

See if your body temperature approaches 98.6.  Low body temperature?  Exercise!  Emphasize basil, garlic, cloves, ginger, green tea, cinnamon, coleus forskohlii, especially capsicum and kelp.  Test for iodine, especially if there are acne or cysts present and/or excessive mucus.  Paint a silver dollar sized iodine tattoo on your forearm and see if it disappears before bedtime.  That means you Ideally some of the iodine smudge should still be visible 24 hours later (if the body is not hungry for iodine).  Check the thyroid.

Thyroid hormone is not enough when the adrenals are weak.  Check for fluid retention.  The adrenals make aldosterone too.  Weak adrenals create boggy, big, swollen, scalloped tongue, cellulite, excessive sweating or perspiration, cognitive dysfunction, inflammation, autoimmunity, pain, fatigue, muscle twitches, arrhythmia or heart palpitations, sensitivity to light, low back or one-sided pain, knee weakness or a craving for salt.

Licorice early in the day supports the adrenals by slowing the breakdown of steroids.  DHEA (dihydroepiandosterone) is a powerful natural hormone made by the adrenals.  Human studies support the antiaging use of DHEA in most people over age 35.  DHEA is anti-inflammatory and should be helpful for those with pain, fatigue, periodontal disease, rheumatoid arthritis, immune dysfunction (cancer), osteoporosis, and excess body fat accumulation, lack of muscle (flab), heart disease, depression or cognitive disorders.  Doses of DHEA for women range from 5-25mg per day in divided doses; for men the range is 10-50mg per day.  DHEA is potentially a powerful hormone; downstream anabolic steroids might trigger facial hair growth in women.  Eat your broccoli.

It is best to measure baseline DHEA in the saliva.  Even better, use saliva samples to compare DHEA to cortisone four times during the waking hours to determine the adrenal rhythm.  Interpretation of this rhythm is called the adrenal stress index.  Extracts of Dioscorea (Mexican yam) may slow the loss of glycemic control and obesity associated with aging.  Pregnenolone (precursor to DHEA) may have more direct effect on the nerves and mood than DHEA, aiding both sleep and memory.

GLUCOSAMINE

Glucosamine is the primary building block of mucopolysaccharides (called glycosaminoglycans) that provide the elasticity and bounce to all connective tissues.  Cartilage, the covering of joints especially benefits.  All three of its forms are effective at reducing symptoms of arthritis.

Glucosamine also acts as a metalloproteinase inhibitor, slowing the production of collagenase, allowing our collagen fibers to be more resistant to inflammatory breakdown.  The entire interconnected fibrous network of our cells and body is collagen.  Collagenase breaks down fibrous barriers to tumors.  Limiting collagenase slows bone destruction in periodontal disease, reduces risk to osteoporosis, and should slow tumor progression.

DETOXIFICATION IS KEY
LOOK FOR THE POISONS

Finding heavy metal poisoning is unusual, unless you have arthritis, cognitive dysfunction, cancer or heart disease.  People who are poor detoxifiers (ones genetically at most risk) show low levels of toxins in their hair, skin, nails or feces.  Intravenous chelation challenge tests are the closest thing we have to a repeatable standard.  Check out www.DMPSbackfire.com for the potential side effects, which are essentially all the bad things mercury (in synergy with other metals) can do to you.

Mercury can hurt you going in, or coming out.  Combining intravenous DMPS with glutathione mitigates some of the negative effects of stirring up mercury.  Modified citrus pectin binds to heavy metals and is a safe slow way to eliminate toxins.  Keep your bowels moving!  Oral chelation and testing through www.mercout.com seems a safer compromise for most.

Dry infrared saunas make the skin as useful as an extra half kidney.  Poplar saunas are not potentially toxic like the cedar saunas.  Low gassing cedar may be better at controlling mold.  Certain infrared systems leave the head uncovered, reducing your chance of rebreathing mercury.  Infrared sauna is perhaps the safest way to get mercury out.  The mercury is toweled off as it exudes through the skin, lightening the toxic load on the liver and kidneys.  Simply sweating is beneficial.

Baths of many kinds are powerful and beneficial.  For pain, irritability, anxiousness, even if the narcotics are not working, try an Epsom salt bath (use 2 cups).  Salt and soda bath has 1-cup baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and 1-cup salt (sea salt best).  Organic apple cider vinegar bath (1-cup) is soothing and helps remove toxins from the skin, especially during a painful inflammatory alkaline crisis.

Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez (William Donald Kelly’s) pancreatic enzyme protocol causes enormous amounts of toxic debris to be released as tumors rapidly break down.  Coffee enemas are indicated for "flu-like" symptoms: headaches, fevers, sleeplessness, fast pulse, dry mouth, constipation, lack of appetite, bad abdominal cramps, joint & muscle aches, pain and rashes.
Coffee enemas (1 quart retained for the optimal 12-15 minutes with practice) help the bile ducts open and the portal vessels around the liver to dilate thus releasing up to 4 times the normal number of toxins.  Anti-inflammatory glutathione is increased 700% in the small bowel.  Max Gerson, MD who popularized the coffee enema in A Cancer Therapy: Results of Fifty Cases also said, "No cancer can survive in the presence of normal oxidative metabolism."

A recommended weekly alternative to the coffee enema is the vitamin C flush.  Vitamin C buffered powder , Perque powder for example (1-3 teaspoonfuls) taken with water every 15 minutes will create loose bowels; take even more vitamin C until there is an enema-like flush.  Record this as bowel tolerance dose.  The next week's daily dose of vitamin C is 3/4 the bowel tolerance dose.  Vitamin C therapy (at 3 times per day for the next 6 days) is 1/4 of the dose that created the flush.  Repeat weekly, flushing toxins until 6 grams of vitamin C (or less) causes an enema-like flush.

Dry skin brushing and massage also aid detoxification.  Use a loofah sponge or long-handled natural vegetable bristles brush dry.  Sweep and brush towards the abdomen, not haphazardly.  Stimulate and cleanse the lymphatics as you stroke.

SKIN CANCERS

Skin cancers, basal cells and warts: Paint lesion to be shed with Sun Spot -ES with glycoalkaloids from Lane Labs.  Concentrated aloe makes surface lesions disappear.  Shrink tumors; reduce anxiety and agitation with the alcoholic root-extract of Ashwagandha.  Learning enhancement and memory retention are improved when gotu kola and gingko biloba are added.  Plantar warts respond to cinnamon oil.          BEC5 topical cream at www.profound-products.com is gently effective for both basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas.
REVIEW

1. Dropping blood sugar triggers stress response.  We go from fit to flab to inflamed.
2. Flab is osteoporosis, depression, fatigue and pain, which limits joy of movement.
3. Bloat defines immune overload, poor barrier function and/or adrenal exhaustion.
4. Cancer requires both irritation (xenobiotics and weak detox) and proliferative state.
5. Breasts are very sensitive indicators of excess proliferative estrogen metabolites.
6. We are all addictive beings.  In the rainforest, sunshine and sweet was good.
7. Sugar is addictive.  Wheat, hot white potatoes, corn & cow's milk are functional sugars.
8.  Caramelized sugar (AGEs) is a thousand times worse than sugar. Toast makes us toast.
9. Reduced cellular immunity, over compensated by extra allergy, allows cancer.
10. The body is a garden.  Infections are pleomorphic.
11. Wars and poisons backfire. Build energy.  Allow white blood ‘gobbler’ cells to do the weeding.
12.  Bacteria and viruses are primarily friendly.  Beneficial bacteria and yeasts are best encouraged.

1. Anaerobic metabolism is survival metabolism.  Cancer cells are anaerobic.
2. Movement, sunshine and greens provide the energy to give and receive love.
3. Soaking seeds, nuts & grains germinates, exponentially increasing mRNA messaging of abundance & eliminates enzyme inhibitors & carcinogenic aflatoxins.
4. Yeast, fungi and cancer grow when oxygen is low & cellular immunity is compromised.
5. We are all being poisoned.  Tumors are storage vessels for toxic waste.
6. Tumor size has little to do with survival time or quality of life.
7. Angiogenesis fuels metastases and cancer death.  Proteolytic enzymes are powerful tumor shrinkers as well as mobility enhancers and pain relievers.

1.  Breasts are major lymphatic pumps.  Wear a bra less than half the time.
2. Constipation and too few veggies create more proliferative estrogen metabolites.
3. Estrogen metabolites are proliferative in both men and women.
4. Eat vegetables, soaked beans, nuts and especially grains according to blood type.
5. Selenium (200 mcg daily) reduces cancer deaths by 50%.  Mercury binds selenium.
6. Women heal best when progesterone is highest, around the fifth day after ovulation.

1. Toxic overload from favorite foods creates allergic shiners (dark circles under eyes) or fine facial rash.
2. Bloat and flab can be seen in the tongue as fullness and scallops.
3. Red tip or strawberry spots on tongue identify stress overwhelming repair.  Changes in apoptotic signaling to the body’s cells allow structure to wane through increased painful inflammation and defective cancerous cells to live on.
4. Magenta smooth, balding, or geographic tongue connotes poor methylation (Bs).
5. Pale tongue or gums predict diminished energy and pain of anemia.
6. Dry tongue suggests dehydration.  If peeing often, perhaps due to weak adrenals.
7. Stressed out? Excessive sweating, salt cravings, light sensitivity, twitches or pain.

1.   Itchy? Rectal itch or lips cracking at the corners is often yeast (or anemia). Try saccharomyces boulardii and regular use of fermented foods & probiotics.  Tea tree oil and/or virgin olive oil kill yeast topically.
2. Fluffy frenums focus us on unfavorable gut flora, distended bowels and gas.
3. Parasites, poor sleep & night teeth grinding go together.  Probiotics for a better biofilm.  Heavy metals compete versus essential minerals.
4. Water & multi-minerals twice per day for morning crankiness, loose teeth, night grinding or irritability.
5. Epsom salt bath (1-2 cups in bath) for anxiety, irritability, pain, spasm or inability to sleep.
6. Chapped lips, dry lips or skin indicate lack of essential fatty acids and vitamins.
7. Bleeding or swollen gums indicate broken barriers and compromised immunity.
8. Tender breasts telegraph excessive toxic estrogen metabolites.

STEVEN N. GREEN, D.D.S.
Antiagingdentist.com

Dr. Green has been treating facial syndromes of pain, inflammation and spasm for more than 35 years.  The holistic perspective and recent science have demonstrated that underlying imbalances leading to tooth decay, gum diseases and facial pain are the same as lead to irritability and depression, fatigue, pain and cancer.

Dr. Green's father, Henry Green practiced dentistry in Miami from 1946 to 1979.  It was Steven's admiration of his dad that led to his interest in dentistry.  His parents encouraged early development of fine nerve-motor development and artistic skills by enrolling Steven in many art classes through the years, especially at the University of Miami’s Lowe Art Museum.

Steven learned all he could about teeth, gums, bones, jaws, occlusion and treating pain (at Dad's behest) and graduated with honors from the University of Detroit, School of Dentistry in 1969. He was awarded membership in the honoraries Omicron Kappa Upsilon and Alpha Sigma Nu, and began teaching clinical periodontics.

Dr. Green conceived and co-authored "The Value of Medical Diagnostic Tests in a Dental Practice,” published in the Journal of American Dental Association in 1970.  He practiced dentistry in the Navy, in Virginia, during the waning days of the Vietnam War, participating in a yearlong fellowship-training program in prosthodontics.  In winter, 1979 the Florida Dental Journal published Dr. Green's Update on Occlusal Related Problems and Treatment. In November 1999 current therapies for Migraine were published in the Townsend Letter for Patients and Doctors.

During Navy service life long interests in relieving pain and improving human performance with nutrition began.  Dr. Steve returned to Miami in 1972.  He practiced with his father for a year, and then opened his own practice.  Again in Kendall, his office is at 10261 SW 72 Street, C-106, Miami, FL, 33173, 305-273-7779.

Dr. Green has lectured internationally on chronic facial pain, nutrition and dental aesthetics.  November 1999 he spoke on Periodontal Diseases and Nutrition at an orthomolecular conference in Japan.  He has been on the staff of Miami's Mt. Sinai Hospital, teaching removable prosthodontics in the residency program.  He participated as a staff member of the University of Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital and was one of the founders of the TMJ Treatment Center.  His home-study book on TMJ syndrome, published by Health Studies Incorporated had four editions.

Dr. Green taught for eight years at the L.D. Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education.  His Miami Midwinter Meeting 2001 talk was Dispense Fitness with the Dental Diagnosis.  He continues to be active at the local level of organized dentistry.  In 1993 he was president of the South Dade District Dental Society.  A member of the American Dental Association, he is also involved with the International Academy of Oral Toxicology, the Institute for Functional Medicine, the American Association for Health Freedom, now president of PATH (Positive Alternative Therapies in Medicine) and still a member of the Rare Fruit Council International and Fairchild Tropical Garden.  He is past president of the dental department at Robert Morgan Vocational School and is past president of the Holistic Dental Association.

Although writing, research and teaching are burning interests, Dr. Green's first love is "doing good work," being constantly educated and grounded by making a difference one on one in primary family clinical care.

P.S. Isolation, anger, judgmental combativeness and mood swings have colored my life. Part of my story is told in Gracelyn Guyol's new 2006 book: HEALING DEPRESSION & BIPOLAR DISORDER WITHOUT DRUGS, Walker & Co., N.Y.
Her antidepressants were causing breast lumps. She sought the nature cure. See the connection?
